He re-recorded "The La's" several times during the 80s. All versions were shit according to him, including the one that did eventually get released.

It's still the obvious pick here though.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 13 December 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to be contrary here, because it's Geir, and vote BBC In Session.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 13 December 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

"There she goes" still reminds me of "Here comes another one" by Monty Python. (Including the singing voice)

Mark G, Thursday, 13 December 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

fuck.
this thread reminds me i have too many albums by Cast taking up space in the archive.
wtf was that all about?

mark e, Thursday, 13 December 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

ach, poor Cast. "Guiding Star" could have made it to a La's album, no problem.

Mark G, Thursday, 13 December 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

"BBC" is pretty damn good, but I'll take the "The La's," warts and all.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 13 December 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

There's going to be a deluxe issue, with an alternate version of the album as CD2, isn;t there?

Mark G, Thursday, 13 December 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

I've already bought the album twice - domestic issue and then the Japanese issue with buku bonus tracks. If there's even more on the deluxe issue, label me a sucker.

The first Cast album and singles were great. Everything after that is wicked lame.

Mr. Odd, Thursday, 13 December 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

the la's album is a rare example of the artist and the producer disagreeing so publicly. i think the producer was probably right in this case

electricsound, Thursday, 13 December 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

There's no fuckin' way I'm posting a Cast poll.

King Boy Pato, Friday, 14 December 2007 07:08 (eighteen years ago)

Would go less well than the award-winning Absurd records poll, doubtless!

Mark G, Friday, 14 December 2007 08:09 (eighteen years ago)

Lee Mavers would have hated it no matter who had produced it. He is the most infamous self-hater in music history.

las and the roses is where the rot set in.

pc user, Thursday, 20 December 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

It just hit me: Wasn;t there a "Mike Badger years" demo collection?

RE-RUN!

Mark G, Thursday, 20 December 2007 08:36 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe 14 people including myself bothered to vote (and yes, I am one half of the duo to vote BBC In Session).

Thanks for coming out, everybody!
