69, Friday, 14 December 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

I prefer the earlier version of Party Til You Puke, but I still voted for it here.

Trip Maker, Friday, 14 December 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

^^^my thoughts exactly

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 14 December 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realize the greatness of I Get Wet the song right away, maybe because of it being near the end of the album and my head was already spinning from what came before it, but now I'd have to put it in the top 3. I don't know anyone could put She Is Beautiful in their bottom 3 though. It has a fun video too.

stingy, Friday, 14 December 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

He gets wet...WITHOUT EVEN TRYING.

I voted for "Ready to Die" but god it is fucking impossible almost to choose. The only kind of "meh" trach is "Don't Stop Living in the Red."

Abbott, Friday, 14 December 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

So classic. Very hard to pick just one.

Soukesian, Friday, 14 December 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

i love the title track

ready to die

groovemaaan, Saturday, 15 December 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

I still haven't listened to the subsequent releases, as I've heard they aren't as good, and I don't want anything to shade the perfection of this one.

Soukesian, Saturday, 15 December 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

7. "She Is Beautiful" - 3:33

pc user, Saturday, 15 December 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

"Party `Til you Puke"

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 15 December 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

"i love NYC"

max, Saturday, 15 December 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

IMPOSSIBLE TO CHOOSE. This is my favorite album of the 2000s so far.

I think "I Get Wet" provokes the most purely joyful reactions from me of anything on there, so that. But "She Is Beautiful," "I Love NYC," "Ready To Die"...actually, almost everything except "Got To Do It" really can't be touched.

Most crucial yet easily-overlooked moment: the way he goes "HEY YOU! LET'S PARTY!" on "It's Time To Party." Like, he's just preaching in general about how it's time to party and now he's jumped from the pulpit and grabbed you by the lapels and said "I'm talking to YOU!" and then jumps back to the pulpit, all in the space of about two seconds. It's just as good on "I Love Music" when he spreads the same idea out to a full song, but there's something amazingly efficient about that bit.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 16 December 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

Party Til You Puke!

Mr. Goodman, Sunday, 16 December 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

Coolest thing about this poll is I don't even know who the artist is here.

sw00ds, Sunday, 16 December 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

On further reflection, it really has to be "I Get Wet." Or rather, the part of it where everything has completely shot into the stratosphere and it's just I GET WET I GET WET I GET WET I GET WET I GET WET and over top of it they're all IIIIIIIIIIIIII GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET....OHH OHHHH, AHHHHHHH!! and somewhere in the mix I think is still the WITHOUT EVEN TRYIN'!! stuff - absolutely. fucking. incredible.

deej, Sunday, 16 December 2007 04:34 (eighteen years ago)

Such a hard poll!
I voted for "It's Time to Party" just because it's such an amazing opener.

Don't even try to deny it /
We're gonna have a party tonight!

Savannah Smiles, Sunday, 16 December 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 20 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I don't even remember which one I just voted for. In a sense, it doesn't really matter which one I voted for, because whichever song off this album happens to be playing at the moment is my favorite song on the album until the next song starts playing.

novaheat, Thursday, 20 December 2007 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

This is a tough poll but I think I'm going with Take It Off just above Ready To Die. It's a solid album all the way through.

onimo, Thursday, 20 December 2007 08:02 (seventeen years ago)

It's so great to see other people dropping love on the title track. I thought I was the only one!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 20 December 2007 08:20 (seventeen years ago)

I still haven't listened to the subsequent releases, as I've heard they aren't as good, and I don't want anything to shade the perfection of this one.

They're certainly not as good, so if unshaded perfection is your game you're making the right play. But I think they're rewarding in their way. I just got the new one the other day and it's still sinking in, but I bought The Wolf on its release and it's good. I would say it came out too soon, since there's a lot of songs that feel like they needed more time to really develop, except a lot of them are apparently re-dos of early, pre-IGW songs. So who knows. Anyway, there are three or four tracks on there that I consider stone-cold AWK classics, and would happily swap onto IGW in place of "Got To Do It."

4. "Ready to Die" - 2:54

official theme song of the war on terror

This is your time to pay,
This is your judgement day,
We made a sacrifice,
And now we get to take your life.

We shoot without a gun,
We'll take on anyone,
It's really nothing new,
It's just a thing we like to do.

You better get ready to die,
You better get ready to kill,
You better get ready to run,
Cause here we come,
You better get ready to die!

Your life is over now,
Your life is running out,
When your time is at an end,
Then it's time to kill again,
We cut without a knife,
We live in black and white,
Your just a parasite,
Now close your eyes and say good-night.

You better get ready to die,
You better get ready to kill,
You better get ready to run,
Cause here we come,
You better get ready to die!
Get ready to die!
Get ready to die!

pc user, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

"we live in black and white, you're just a parasite."

pc user, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

"She is Beautiful" largely because of the Darklands-era Mary Chain-ish-ness of "I ain't got nothin' to lose (nothin' to lose)..."

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

This poll has got me to put on this album for the first time in years! It holds up fine, surprisingly.

Sundar, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

Apparently I picked "Fun Night" here: Which is your favourite song on I Get Wet?

Sundar, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:52 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 21 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I'm actually a bit shocked to see "She Is Beautiful" finish third. To see anyone voted for it at all really.

sonderangerbot, Friday, 21 December 2007 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

The one song that got zero votes is the one that I can't remember anything about. I've listened to this album a million times and I have no idea what that song is.

Savannah Smiles, Friday, 21 December 2007 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

Boo on everybody voting Party Hard w/o posting - it looked like this was going to be a poll ruled by the underdogs. But I do like the spread!

Doctor Casino, Friday, 21 December 2007 03:39 (seventeen years ago)

I GET WET

I want this to play at my funeral, and I'll pay somebody to fly over the congregation and toss water balloons on everyone

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Saturday, 10 April 2010 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

That is a genius idea. I would be sad, because you died, but I would also be wet without even trying, which would improve things greatly.

Ponies are horse children (Abbott), Saturday, 10 April 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

This is a scenario where a chick you have never met is at your funeral.

Ponies are horse children (Abbott), Saturday, 10 April 2010 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

I like the funeral idea.

This album is so amazing!

Have we ever polled The Wolf? I think that is my favourite album.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Saturday, 10 April 2010 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

I would happily invite all ILXors to my funeral xp

10. "Got to Do It" - 3:55 0

???????????????????????

This is his New Order song. And it rules.

✌.✰|ʘ‿ʘ|✰.✌ (Steve Shasta), Saturday, 10 April 2010 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I was about to ask what's up with all the "Got to Do It" indifference here. It is sometimes my favorite song on the record (just like every other song on the record).

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Saturday, 10 April 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

I always thought "Got To Do It" was like something left off "Rock 'n' Roll High School".

Adam Bruneau, Saturday, 10 April 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

That song always reminded me of New Order too. What is it exactly that does that?

Ervin "Death Grip" Michaels (res), Monday, 12 April 2010 14:57 (fifteen years ago)

same rhythm and melody is reminscent of Love Vigilantes iirc

thirteen years pass...

threw this on this week for the first time in ages.... still excellent imo. it may never sound as gloriously, massively life-affirming as it did when i was 19, but so it goes with many things. had "Girls Own Love" and "I Love NYC" rattling around in my head for the next several days. "She Is Beautiful," "I Get Wet," and "Don't Stop Living in the Red" remain the staggeringz pummeling hookfest standouts.

"Got To Do It" justly zero'd here - then and now, the only obvious dud. in my mind it was in contention with "Really In Love" but I'm surprised now to realize that that's on The Wolf.

Hiphoptimus Rhyme (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 2 November 2025 20:31 (one month ago)

Ready To Die is my standout
