OK so my Dad gave me a bunch of his old Metheney records and I'm kinda shocked at how *out* some of this stuff is; conventional wisdom had always told me Metheney was boring elevator muzak. I'm really enjoying a lot of it and am wondering where to go next. Plz rank dude's album accordingly. From Wiki, Group albums + "Other" prominent records.

Song X is totes not cheating! It was the only Metheney record I didn't hide until I started hearing the likes of 80/81 and Paralell Realities.

i only own one of his albums - the falcon and the snowman album - specifically for the amazing bowie sung track "this is not america". i've only heard one other song of his - the balearic banger "slip away", and i love it, but i guess i'll go w/snowman only out of ignorance

Though I've been listening to a shit ton of Offramp ("Barcarole," "Are You Going With Me?" and the title track which is a colossal guitar synth freak out) and Rejoicing with Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins which has a great mix of atmospheric, extremely melodic straight ahead jazz and several awesome guitar synth tracks...

My love and respect for Metheny has really grown in recent years. He keeps cranking out music, but never shies away from experimentation and innovation.
