― FACK, Sunday, 25 October 2009 16:05 (sixteen years ago)
'trippin at the disco' is kinda embarrassing imo :-/
― i got nothin (deej), Sunday, 25 October 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)
i don't know how that's even possible, when it's them trying to be totally goofy.weakest album to date. every one since OST has been part of a gradual decline. :(
― hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Sunday, 25 October 2009 16:51 (sixteen years ago)
they succeed at being totally goofy

i dont really like either one
― i got nothin (deej), Sunday, 25 October 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
i mean i 'get' that its a joke, (the PUTS one) but it feels like such a dorky one
i find that endearing. they've always been kinda dorky, part of their charm.
― hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Sunday, 25 October 2009 18:21 (sixteen years ago)
yeah but usually the beats werent dorky, they were just good
― i got nothin (deej), Sunday, 25 October 2009 18:22 (sixteen years ago)
true. and i doubt i'll be bumping "Disco", I view it as a throwaway goofy track, and think hip hop could benefit from more of those.
― hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Sunday, 25 October 2009 18:24 (sixteen years ago)
it's this album's entry in the "hang loose", "tuxedo rap", "swan fever" line of retro party tracks. no it's not as good as those, but like i said, diminishing quality from them in general.

Double K of People Under the Stairs passed away this evening. In addition to rapping, he co-produced the group's music with groupmate Thes One which was extremely influential in the West Coast's underground scene. Man, that’s a bummer.
― sctttnnnt (pgwp), Sunday, 31 January 2021 18:24 (five years ago)
man. that sucks an awful lot. i loved puts when they came out and they were consistently one of the best groups putting out just straight ahead boom bap records at a time when that was increasingly less cool. i lost interest in hiphop around the time of stepfather, but i never heard a wack record by them. i recall seeing some feature piece write-ups around their album from 2019, which they announced would be their last. solid record, but has layers of extra poignancy and relevance all of a sudden.
he was 43. i'm going to be 40 in a few weeks. this hits extremely hard.

Thes One has a new album out called "Farewell, my friend" a tribute to Double K, really a lovely record, it's mostly instrumental based on sampling stuff that DK loved, there are interview interludes talking about him, the whole thing is pretty affecting.
