I think I'm going with Wizzard for bringing the Christmassy feeling and weird TOTP(?) appearance with all the kids they obviously hate.

Nice bit of Bert Jansch, why not.

Ohh look mum, no Freiheit! HRAY!!

Mark G, Thursday, 20 December 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

WTF has "I Believe" by the Singing Squaddies got to do with Christmas (and it wasn't the Christmas number one of its year either)?

Have to go for Mary Margaret; hope she enjoyed the royalties.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 20 December 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

This changes year to year for me.

I'm getting a bit sick of Fairytale of NY at the momemt. Slade is always in with a shout, but this year I agree with TWGTHIAQI - it's the Waitresses.

Der Bingle, natch.

Voted Slade. Might have gone for Wham! as well. No XTC and no Squeeze is hardly a surprise (both have Christmas songs that might have given them quite a bit of competition as far as my vote went)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 20 December 2007 11:49 (eighteen years ago)

XTC's one was terrible. Squeeze's one I think I heard but it made no impression on me whatsoever.

Just choice of compilation btw. This seems to be the most complete collection there is. Most of the most important ones are here. Most of the compilations I have seen have been lacking, for instance, either Slade, John Lennon or Wham! and it doesn't get Christmas without all of those.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

GOOD choice, I mean

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

Oh no! There ain't no Sanity Clause!

Stewart Osborne, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

One christmas catalogue too many.

Mark G, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:09 (eighteen years ago)

"One Christmas Catalogue", Now there's another great 80s Christmas song that I wouldn't expect to see in an album like this anyway.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

Would love to hear the Mary Margaret O'Hara, but otherwise it's a dead heat between FGTH and The Waitresses. Oh dear, what to do?

OK, The Waitresses.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 20 December 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

There have been few good new Christmas songs from the past 10 years though. I fact, I believe I'd go for this Norwegian 2000 song as the most obvious one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjQgBFe_Pw0

Tom D., Thursday, 20 December 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

Where's "There's No Lights On The Christmas Tree Mother, They're Burning Big Louie Tonight" by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band? It's a disgrace!

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 20 December 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

My brain tells me Pogues, my gut tells me Waitresses. So the latter.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 20 December 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone heard this? Wish I had known about it earlier, as it's too late to shop for Christmas albums.
