This Flash movie used to be posted on the official Morr Music site. Some complaining by myself and others got the link removed, but they're still obviously hosting it.

Thoughts?

Why the complaining???

What is this file? I don't like to download .exe files without a clue?

The Isan reworking of Depeche Mode on the Morr Music website sounds pretty good though.

It's a Flash file (in .exe) compressed to .zip.

Mark, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, won't be running it on my computer. EXE files are tools of the devil, esp when most of this stuff could be accomplished by Flash or Shockwave. Maybe you'd better just tell us what it is.

Yeah, what the hell is the big secret?

Ally, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Seeing as how the purpose of my post was to get others' opinions on this animation, it'd be self-defeating for me to sit here and give a blow by blow account. Suffice to say, it involves bombs, the twin towers and what could be construed as a very racist depiction of Islam.

As for the fact that it's an .exe file -- what's the big deal? It's still a Flash animation, but since it's no longer hosted online, it's in .exe format rather than .swf. Check it out, dammit.

Mark, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

With respect, no...you run an EXE file on your computer and it gives that application permission to do whatever it wants, including deleting files and installing trojans. Was it the parody of "Banana Boat"?

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How would it be "self-defeating" if you want people's opinions to explain to them what it is? Jackass. WITHOUT respect, no, I won't download this. You're basically discluding two types of people from your audience:

People who can't use .exe files on their computers (many workplaces have disallowed this, so anyone reading from work)

People who are not MORONS WHO WANT VIRUSES.

I would so give you the middle finger if I could, but my webcam isn't working quite right.

Ally, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well, that was pointless and uncalled for, but ironically not unexpected.

jess, Sunday, 28 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Uh. Is this really happening?)

It's self-defeating to explain it because the issue at hand is whether this Morr promo has racist undertones or not. There's a grey area, therefore it warrants seeing. What would you prefer me to do - describe it and then TELL you whether it's racist or not? It's not my intention to disclude anybody, but it is pretty difficult to spark discussion on an issue unless people actually have some background.

Sean - I fully understand your concerns about viruses in .exe format. If it helps at all (and I'm sure it probably doesn't) you've got my full endorsement of the file and my e-mail address (mpytlik@rogers.com) as collateral. Unfortunately, the promo isn't available anywhere else or in any other form.

Ally - And a warm 'hello' to you too.

Sorry guys -

Mark, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, Mark, don't mean to sound like I'm hostile. EXE files are just a hot button for me (computer stuff is my main line of work, and I see too many problems with other people clicking on 'em to justify ever EVER running an EXE file if I'm really not sure who coded it.) If you've already got a copy, maybe I'll just come to your place to watch it, since you've done the damage (if any). ;)

ps. check back in on the Toronto meet-up thread...planning something for mid-May.

pps. Hey Ally: fix your camera and give us all the finger...it'd be an honour.

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 29 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
