Voted "Heartbeat City" because that's the best album he produced. His best production work as a producer may be "Back In Black" though.
Recording one note at a time may seem alienating to guitar players used to a more "live" way of playing, but it sounded great!

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 23 December 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)

His recent form doesn't look too hot tho. He retired?

Mark G, Sunday, 23 December 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

If I had the choice between nobbing Shania Twain and producing AOR albums I wouldn't get much producing done either.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 23 December 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

He retired?

He married a MOR act.

Is this something specific to Heartbeat City or Back In Black or is it something he does on all these albums? (Surely he didn't record Angus Young solos literally one note at a time?? That's fascinating if it's true.)

I voted for Heat Treatment--which I had no idea he produced prior to seeing it on this list--'cause I think it's pretty darn great; and besides, if I don't, who will? But yeah, the best production is probably on Heartbeat City or one of the Shania records--although I would probably pick Highway to Hell as my second favorite here.

I don't what he did on "Heartbeat City" (which is largely synth dominated, along with his Billy Ocean work) but those AC/DC albums were surely recorded that way. It's his way of recording riffs, and it sounds really, really marvellous.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 23 December 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

And of course it's riffs, not the solos that he treated that way. A solo recorded note for note just wouldn't work out right.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 23 December 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

Missed Savage Return by Savoy Brown ca. the same time as the City Boy records.

A solo recorded note for note just wouldn't work out right.
Tell that to Clarence Clemons.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 23 December 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

Kinda lost it after '84 didn't he. Everything is over produced after that if you ask me.

steampig67, Monday, 24 December 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

"Hysteria" is marvellously produced. I kind of like the way he got "Waking Up The Neighbours" to sound too.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 24 December 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

how can it be anything besides Hysteria? Well, ok, Come On Over.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 24 December 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for the one right before the last one you just mentioned.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 24 December 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

Back in Black. Wouldn't change a note of it. Not even one note at a time.

Nate Carson, Monday, 24 December 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

heartbeat city easy

gershy, Monday, 24 December 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

He produced XTC's "This is Pop," so I vote for that.

goldfish_cracker, Thursday, 27 December 2007 08:08 (eighteen years ago)

heat treatment seconded.

drone/a/sore, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

Come On Over VERY easily.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

welcome back, Kevin!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'll take the Corrs' "Breathless" over everything he's produced since 1997 though.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 27 December 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

Body Rhythm, obv.

gabbneb, Thursday, 27 December 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

I believe he produced the 7 inch version.
