Chris Gaines comeback record, "Double Live."

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

It's be great if Kid N Play hooked up with Rick Rubin and they did a comeback album full of "serious" stuff with strange acoustic covers that was written up by all the critics.

filthy dylan, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

i'm gonna answer this seriously and say that there's a band signed to sub pop in the US called foals that had a song in the NME top 10 list that'll probably be pretty big next year.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 December 2007 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

That's weird, because my serious answer is in Foals' Myspace top friends, is from the same city, and actually shared a member or two way back when.

Just got offed, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

Foals are pretty good. I hope they get big.

Also, Todd Osborn’s (Osborne, Soundmurderer) full length for Spectral should be out in ’08 which I think will get a lot of attention.

Mr. Goodman, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

"foals"

ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

My serious answer is The Beatles, if the downloadable versions of the remixed back catalogue comes to pass next year. Especially if they manage to get the DVD 5.1 mix versions out as well.

Guilty_Boksen, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

The Beatles? What about a band making new music?

Just got offed, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

Still the Beatles. Ringo's been doing sessions with the ghosts of John, George, and Paul.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

Really?!

I know, right?, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

LJ, i'm not saying that it's a good thing (or indeed that they are a largely undiscovered band) but when the catalogue is available for download it will swmap the charts - think of what has happened this Xmas but double it.

Personally, I want Mono and iLIKETRAINS to achieve world domination (not undiscovered for ILM types, but certainly for the general public)

Guilty_Boksen, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

Serious answer? I'm hoping for loadsa luv to be showered upon Ungdomskulen, a marvellous thrash-prog trio from Norway. Of the obvious ones, my jury's still out on Foals. There's a lot about them that I like, but... hmm, wait and see. Palladium are going to piss a lot of people off, but I'm still rather fond, somewhat despite myself. I'm also looking forward to the return of Black Mountain.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

mike, as a cardiacs convert you should be anticipating the long-awaited 6th album as well (not that it'll get any coverage; as Guilty Boksen says, the really big records will be the really obvious ones).

might check out unsdomskulen, sound like they might by my kinda thing

Just got offed, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

Don't people just use Limewire or Soulseek or whatever?

I know, right?, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for the heads up on Ungdomskulen, mike. From the MySpace tracks they sound like my kind of thing too.

Guilty_Boksen, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 17:00 (seventeen years ago)

Expecting good things for Cave, hoping Shirrelle C. Limes receives some recognition

Tape Store, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

Foals signed to Sub pop? I grabbed a few tracks last week. I love "Brazil Is Here!"

Kate, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

In a rush of blood fuelled by seasonal port and sherry, I have just ordered the Ungdomskulen album off of Amazon market place at £4.44 (I haven't drunk enough to pay full price yet).

Guilty_Boksen, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

well I just ordered the collectible promo edition one for £3.75! :p

Just got offed, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

Prediction:
Fueled by Hot Topic sales, the Sweeney Todd Soundtrack will dominate the charts well into March. This financial success will encourage other artists (like Paul McCartney + Joni Mitchell) to release albums through Hot Topic as well.

Mordechai Shinefield, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

Ungdomskulen are pretty cool!
I like Dengue Fever and Big Boi in 08.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

OUT: disco
IN: ACID HOUSE

Stevie D, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

also new My Bloody Valentine, which will be pretty good, but will disappoint everyone nonetheless. In 5 or 10 years, however, everyone will look back and realize it's actually pretty decent (not unlike "Second Coming")

Stevie D, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 18:42 (seventeen years ago)

Also Lil' Mama, more T-Pain, more R. Kelly and I hope more Tay Zonday. Buck expectations, Tay!

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

OUT: disco
IN: ACID HOUSE

Didn’t this already happen in ’05 or ’06?

New MBV LP, if released, will receive a 7.x on Pitchfork.

that hercules & love affair album on DFA (summer release?) will prolly be largish in impact, at least blogospherically.

pshrbrn, Thursday, 27 December 2007 06:38 (seventeen years ago)

Bloody hell, I'm a one man Ungdomskulen street team! They are quite staggeringly good live, as the Young Knives found to their cost on their autumn tour. ("I don't know, you book a support act and they only turn out to be the best band in the world...")

mike t-diva, Thursday, 27 December 2007 08:14 (seventeen years ago)

Cher prod. by T-Pain...

Judging by the quality of the new album, I think Kelley Polar might get big. His first album only generated real buzz on ILM, right?

xxxxpost (it's up there ^ somewhere)

Ungdomskulen album is rather immense. Shades of the more mainstream end of Oneida plus glimpses of XTC(!) - Fantastic album; they must be collosal live. Thanks again, mike.

stephen, Friday, 4 January 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

Leona Lewis will blow up in the US, and I think Karina Pasian will as well.. they'll be marketed as the "new Mariah Carey" and the "new Alicia Keys", respectively.

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 5 January 2008 07:05 (seventeen years ago)

My formerly American anglophile friend who now lives in London is all sorts of crazy about Leona Lewis. I'll approach her with an open mind.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 5 January 2008 07:08 (seventeen years ago)

To be honest, I think she's really dull but she's got a great voice.

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 5 January 2008 07:09 (seventeen years ago)

I'd love to see Bell Hollow and Home Video go places this year. They have heaps of potential.

Trayce, Saturday, 5 January 2008 07:11 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard any Home Video since that single or ep or whatever from a few years ago, and had forgotten them until just now.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 5 January 2008 07:37 (seventeen years ago)

Is that Greg Fasolino who used to write for Reflex? Is he still a journalist? Is he on here? He was a nice guy, wish him well. (Bell Hollow)

Also, any chance people could hyperlink some of their picks to a myspace page? That would be sooo handy and fun!

Give me Soko and Lykke Li with Lisa Mitchell to show.

Also, gonna be an even bigger year for Ghetto, his new stuff is fantastic. Oh, and Tamzin Challenger should be massive.

According to me, but I am never right about these things.

Saxby D. Elder, Saturday, 5 January 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)
