The only one I even recognize, besides Sleepytime Gorilla Museum itself, is Skeleton Key. But I've never even heard them; I just know Rick Rizzo of Eleventh Dream Day used to be in that band.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, that's totally wrong. I have no idea why I thought that.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

idiot flesh b/c of nothing show

kl0pper, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

Having seen about half these bands (starting with Idiot Flesh), I'd have to say Sleepytime themselves rule the roost. Such an unstoppable live band.

Nate Carson, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

I was gonna vote for Skeleton Key, but the shared member is just a drummer from one of SK's inferior later lineups, so Two-Foot Yard, who I've only heard a little by but liked.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

I've only actually heard :

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Charming Hostess
Faun Fables
Vacuum Tree Head
Thinking Plague

and Faun Fables get the nod over Thinking Plague. I really really don't like SGM, I can't work out what I'm missing. Guess I like my prog with a bit more dynamics (by which I don't mean the occasional quiet bit). Anyway, sorry to piss on the thread, carry on.

who in the SGM axis ended up in Thinking Plague? I'd vote for them but I consider them to be their own thing altogether

nothing in the world touched those Charming Hostess live shows from the late 90's early 00's before the band branched off. Eat is a good studio album but I hope there's a concert album in the can somewhere because that band together, they had everything. fantastic songs and you could tell they barely knew which of them were about to tear off and do a solo (SGM is fun but with one problem with prog that complex, in performance they have to rehearse every piece to the point where every show is basically note-identical). Charming Hostess still plays out as a acapella trio and it is good but it is a different thing

the first time I saw them was Bruno's in the late 90's and at the end of the night Jewlia said 'we'll be back next week as the band Rats & Monkeys, we'll be doing an all Art Bears cover set' and I honestly just about fell over

I voted for Faun Fables. They was a freak-folk before you was a freak-folk, plus then they was better than that while you was still trying to be that. If that makes sense.

nabisco, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, Rick LEE was in Skeleton Key. And Butter 08, which is how I even knew him in the first place.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

Butter 08!!

nabisco, Thursday, 27 December 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

Rick Lee is the king of being in bands for one awesome album and then leaving (the first Skeleton Key and Enon albums and the only Butter 08 album).

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 27 December 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

who in the SGM axis ended up in Thinking Plague?

I think drummer David Shamrock (who played on Grand Opening and Closing) was in Thinking Plague (or at least, appeared on a Thinking Plague album).

two weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 13 January 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I thought I was the only one on ILX who cared about SGM.

Love SGM, Idiot Flesh, Faun Fables, Charming Hostess, Book Of Knots, and Skeleton Key. I'll vote for one of those.

John Justen, Sunday, 13 January 2008 00:12 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't listened to my Thinking Plague albums in almost 20 years. I wonder what they sound like. I seem to recall liking them more than most Cuneiform bands. Anyways, SGM is fab.

libcrypt, Sunday, 13 January 2008 06:24 (seventeen years ago)

SGM are incredible. in glorious times was the best album of last year.

also love tin hat, two-foot yard, book of knots, faun fables and moe!kestra. and a recent convert to the mighty thinking plague.

but SGM take the honours.

m the g, Sunday, 13 January 2008 11:03 (seventeen years ago)

How did Faun Fables not win? Lame!

Mr. Goodman, Monday, 14 January 2008 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...

I think maybe I shouldn't have included SGM.

Abbott, Friday, 9 May 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

results would have been more interesting

Moe's new band Mute Socialite is pretty great, love two drummer bands

^^ clip is better overall but doesn't give you any idea of the dual-drummer thing, for which you can go 1 minute into this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN9XQ6bVcc8&feature=related

Milton Parker, Friday, 9 May 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
