This those Hancock threads floating around, I find that it would be interesting to poll this 2 CD compilation, which contains most of his best-known work.

I prefer his 80s electro trilogy, but as far as single tracks go, there is still nothing more glorious than "Chameleon". So my vote for that one.

"Maiden Voyage" is an unimpeachable jazz standard. So that wins.

Gotta go for "Hidden Shadows". It's nice to see they've included "People Music" though, it's a wonderful tune from an underrated album.

If I would've had to choose one tune from Mr. Hands though, I would've picked "Shiftless Shuffle" instead of "4 AM", that's one of his greatest grooves.

"Cantaloupe Island" = best vamp ever?

Ridiculous to choose btw Maiden Voyage & Chameleon or Cantaloupe & Hidden Shadows (or pair any two others from acoustic Blue Note to later electro Herbie). Stupid poll. No offense to the pollster, but really, wtf? Why?

SKELO, I believe that the consensus is polls in general are pretty stupid, so we don't sweat it much past that. The only reasonable response to "why?" is "Why the fuck not?"

Oh, I know. Don't take my carping too seriously.
