Surprised the only mention has been on the Excelsior thread. Go figure.

Tributes to his professionalism and friendlinesss have poured in from the many radio station bosses who fired him over the years.

I remember one rabid fan started up a Kevin Greening appreciation website, which had comments in the guestbook from the man himself which started 'I'm very flattered, thanks for the interest" etc, and ended with "please leave me alone I do not wish any further communication, and I reserve the right to contact my lawyers..."

Anyway, one of the last actual radio DJs to host the Radio 1 breakfast show (admittedy as the on-air mentor for Zoe Ball), until Chris Moyles.

and so on.

yes shocking, shocking news. KG RIP.

who hosts it now if not an "actual radion DJ"? That's not just me being obtuse on purpose -- I genuinely don't know.

Well, Chris Moyles, like I say. Up til fairly recently, most of Radio 1's DJs were faces from TV that moved over, rather than radio people moving up.

Now, it's more 'people who want to jump from Radio to children's TV. Or back. Or both.

What, like Noel Edmonds and Mike Smith?

Oh, yeah who was that "character" who would have adverts for various household appliances or vanity products, with a hastily inserted "warning: may explode without warning" style disclaimer?

I used to like him...sad to see him die of Vauxhall syndrome:

"One of the first out gay DJs on BBC Radio 1 died after taking large quantities of ecstasy, cocaine and GHB "

All over Vauxhall they are dying
