i don't know almost anything from bluski's list, so i guess im saved
― Zeno, Thursday, 3 January 2008 00:44 (sixteen years ago) link
Blueski has more or less saved me from having to think of a list! Except I'd throw the Black-Eyed Peas, the Red-Hot Chili Peppers and Paolo Nutini onto the wreckpile too.

i would've put Nutini down but that song he did about buying some new shoes wasn't completely horrendous
― blueski, Thursday, 3 January 2008 00:54 (sixteen years ago) link
i mean we've all been there right?
The correct answer is Nelly.
― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:00 (sixteen years ago) link
Biffy Clyro aren't in the same league of badness as some of this stuff. Besides, the Oceansize singer/guitarist/songwriter/hero absolutely loves them, and I have respect for what he says. I don't like what I've heard, but shit like The Fratellis or Dream Theater actually enrages me.
My own moment of weakness: Mika's "Grace Kelly" is kinda pretty good. Well, the tune at any rate. Anyone? Anyone? *tumbles into blackness*
― Just got offed, Thursday, 3 January 2008 01:01 (sixteen years ago) link
i was in a taxi and one of the dudes i was out with made the driver turn the radio on and 'Grace Kelly' and said dude cranked it right up and i was drunk enough to find this hilarious and awesome

I save most of my hatred for NME "indie" bands, probably because I am/was corny indie fuxor myself. Most other music I dislike I just don't like. Bands like a lot of the ones blueski listed I do actually really HATE. The last one was the Hoosiers after seeing their shitty advert on the telly.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 3 January 2008 17:33 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't see what is so particularly offensive about those. The Hoosiers are actually brilliant. I'm not so big on Mika and Scissor Sisters, but at least they have proper songs, and good, clean production values. Much better than the R&B and hip-hop crap that way too many kids are into these days.
― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 3 January 2008 17:42 (sixteen years ago) link
The Fray are much much worse than anything ever.
― Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 3 January 2008 17:44 (sixteen years ago) link
I actually haven't heard The Fray, but if they are anything like The Hoosiers or The Feeling, I'll probably love them.
― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 3 January 2008 17:45 (sixteen years ago) link
But I guess some people find it so provocative when 40 year-olds get into actual new music made by new acts, that they start hating those acts and that genre.
― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 3 January 2008 17:46 (sixteen years ago) link
Yes, that's exactly why.

Hardly melodic as in hitting the notes. Plus singing some random notes doesn't count as "melodic". You need precomposed highly melodic songs for that.

xpost: But. . but. . . Ride With Me. . .
Tough call for this one, I've always said Limp Bizkit, but that's probably just talk. Nah, I just thought about it and Limp Bizkit is definitely the one. (What ever happened with that Fred Durst running someone over with his car incident, is he in jail now or something?)
― mehlt, Saturday, 5 January 2008 03:27 (sixteen years ago) link
"Dilemma" was more melodic. Although he didn't sing the melodic parts.

There really isn't enough bandwidth in the universe to encapsulate it all.
At the moment, I'd say Akon is pretty much the worst offender. And I'll join the hate-chorus against The Fray. And all that "American Idol" bullshit. And about 99.9999% of contemporary Hip Hop.

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap are definitely eligible for my personal Lifetime Achievement Most Hated Band Ever award. (and I've always hated "Black Is Black" by Los Bravos mostly because I thought it was GP and the UG, guilty by sonic association).
Goddamn do I hate hearing "Young Girl" and it's ALWAYS played on oldies radio and in the supermarket. Jesus Christ I hate that song . . .

I mean, the idea of writing the lyrics "with all the charms of a WO-MAN, you're just a BAY-BEE in disguise" is so fucking creepy and stupid. It's not even pedophilic in some kind of interestingly transgressive TG/Brainbombs/Whitehouse kind of way, nor in a classic sexually frustrated "You've Never Been This Far Before"/American Beauty suburban everydad sort of way either. It's just bad. A baby in disguise? Seriously? Fuck you.
