Jazzman Records -- C/D, S/D

Anyone heard of Jazzman Records? They've got some interesting titles -- e.g., Florida Funk, Carolina Funk, and Quantic Presents The World's Rarest Funk 45s, Vol. I and II. The titles seem interesting, and the website piqued my interest. But aside from a few scattered -- and generally positive -- reviews, I've found next to nothing on the label or its releases.

I'm tempted to sample a few of the discs, but it isn't like I lack good sources for rare old funk and soul records. Soul Jazz and especially The Numero Group are, to me, very reliable in that regard. Still, I'm curious. So again, has anyone heard of the label or its releases? If so, what do you think of them? Thanks.

Totally redundant sentences in that first paragraph. Sorry about that.

I think they are very tasty. Esp the Florida Funk comp which is awesome. Their 45 reissues are also very good, and their online mixes are usually top shelf. The only problem is that they are def a veteran's paradise, so if you are not familiar with alot of the releases you will be wading in research for a while before you decide to pick something up, but if that doesn't bother you then go for it. Plus Jazzman Gerald is a very nice dude.

Excellent. Florida Funk is the first one I'm picking up. Strangely, it looks like eMusic only has a partial disc (it's missing about 7 songs).

With the discussion of the Nigeria Special Comp. branching out to discuss other label's compilation discs, I'm just bumping this thread to mention again that Jazzman Records compilations are pretty great.

Jukebox Mambo comp is really cool. "Rumba and Afro-Latin accented r&b 1949-1960."

Just heard of this on Thursday. Mr. Fine WIne was talking about somebody pronouncing it as if it were "Jasmine Records."
