THREADS THAT ARE BLANTANTLY SHAMELESS RIPOFFS OF OTHER THREADS
etc.

There's this Seether song that's almost a note-for-note ripoff of "Rape Me."
Local alt rock DJ humorously underlined this by playing them back-to-back with the quickly spoken segueway "That was Seether, here's Nirvana!"
I called in to thank him for shitting on Seether.

Fergilicious is MORE of a ripoff of Afro-Rican's Give it All You Got than Supersonic...

Huey Lewis still probably gets a monthly check for Ray Parker Jr plundering "I want a new drug" for the "Ghostbusters" theme ...

We have done this before, haven't we?
The Damned's "Anything" is practically a cover of Iggy Pop's "Five Foot One"
Nirvana's "Come As You Are" is Killing Joke's "Eighties" which is The Damend's "Life Goes On" which is actually "Baby Come Back" by the Equals
The Cult's "Wild Flower" is AC/DC's "Rock N' Roll Singer"
Swans' "The Great Annihilator" is brilliant, but a bit too reminiscent of the Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows"
"Wasteland" by the Mission UK is basically a thin re-write of the Bunnymen's "Over the Wall"

Charlatans - "The Only One I Know" nabs the organ hook from Deep Purple's "Hush"

Mika - "Relax, take it easy" sounds a lot like Cutting Crews' "I just died in your arms tonight"
Coldplay - "Talk" takes its melody from Kraftwerk's "Computer Love"

I'm really annoyed at the moment by the Finger Eleven song that rips Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out."
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 6 January 2008 21:21 (seventeen years ago)
Several of the mentioned songs are influenced rather than ripoffs. I second "Talk" although I believe Kraftwerk were credited. (Also, it takes its riffs from "Computer Love", not the melody)
Some more obvious examples.
Kula Shaker: "Into The Blue" rips off Stone Roses' "Bye Bye Badman" badly. That is, lifts the verse completely without changing one note.
Vanilla Ice never credited Queen and David Bowie when he stole "Under Pressure" for "Ice Ice Baby". He just added one note, claiming it was his composition.
The chorus of Leo Sayer's "When I Need You" was originally composed by Leonard Cohen and named "Famous Blue Raincoat".

If "Talk" applies, then 90s hip-hop and dance in general and late 80s house to thread.

songs that sound like other songs
― Tuomas, Sunday, 6 January 2008 21:43 (seventeen years ago)
queen never credited chic when they stole "good times" for "another one bites the dust". they just subtracted four or five notes, claiming it was their composition.

Only the rhythm is similar. There are thousands of songs based on a 4/4 groove anyway. A melody is different. The melody IS the music, and by stealing that bit from "Under Pressure" he stole the ONLY part of "Ice Ice Baby" that had any musical value whatsoever.
― Geir Hongro, Monday, 7 January 2008 07:05 (seventeen years ago)
Rapping may not have musical value Drums may not have musical value Lyrics may not have musical value There are no harmonies in "Ice Ice Baby" Bass doesn't have much musical value, but if the bass carries the only melody, what little of musical value is there is in the bass. In this case the bass was stolen though.

That being said, "Another One Bites The Dust" is probably the worst Queen single ever.
