I'm voting for "Follow the Leader" which just might be my favorite rap song of all, and is also a great song to try to mouth along with.

"Know the Ledge"

The Reverend, Sunday, 6 January 2008 05:25 (seventeen years ago)

Oilyrags, Sunday, 6 January 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 6 January 2008 07:00 (seventeen years ago)

she wanted my agony agony agony in her body

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 6 January 2008 07:00 (seventeen years ago)

hard for me to vote, I only have Follow the Leader, which I really enjoy. especially the title track with the horror movie sample.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 6 January 2008 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

you should get 'let the rhythm hit 'em' cuz it rules.

Lowell N. Behold'n, Sunday, 6 January 2008 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ Best album (except for maybe the last one which I haven't heard and desperately need to)

The Reverend, Sunday, 6 January 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

i love most of these songs. microphone fiend, lyrics of fury, the r, let the rhythm hit 'em, in the ghetto, mahogany, casualties of war, relax with pep, know the ledge, don't sweat the technique. all great. but for real, follow the leader might be my favorite SONG . not just my favorite rap song. it's a toss-up between follow the leader and slip inside this house by 13th floor elevators. both songs mean so much to me. and i would be a different person if i hadn't heard them.

scott seward, Sunday, 6 January 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

microphone fiend was the first song of theirs i ever heard. such a great song and video.

i honestly kind of like follow the leader better as an album than paid in full, maybe that's heresy.

M@tt He1ges0n, Sunday, 6 January 2008 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

Follow the Leader is my least favorite of the three I have. I think it may suffer from "the first three tracks are awesome" syndrome more than any other album I've ever heard.

i think it's a lot of nostalgia for me. (xpost)

M@tt He1ges0n, Sunday, 6 January 2008 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

Now I'm home on reserves and you can bet
when THEY call, I'm going AWOL
Cause it ain't no way I'm going back to war
when I don't know who or what I'm fighting for
So I wait for terrorists to attack
Every time a truck backfires I fire back
I look for shelter when a plane is over me
Remember Pearl Harbor? New York could be over, G
Kamikaze, strapped with bombs
No peace in the East, they want revenge for Saddam
Did I hear gunshots, or thunder?
No time to wonder, somebody's going under
Put on my fatigues and my camoflouge
Take control, cause I'm in charge
When I snapped out of it, it was blood, dead bodies on the floor

Too many good 'uns - I went with 'follow the leader' too - 'let the rhythm hit em' is sweet...

BlackIronPrison, Sunday, 6 January 2008 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

Hey Scott, was "Follow The Leaser" your first EB&R song that you heard? It was for me... Yo MTV Raps premiere episode in 1988! I think it was the second video played, after "Run's House"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 6 January 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

no, i had the move the crowd/paid in full remix single before that. after i heard paid in full i went out and bought eric b is president 12 inch. and then before i knew it follow the leader came out, so i bought the album and the single. and then the single of The R.

sadly, i don't own any of the vinyl anymore! sold it all when i opened an ill-fated record store in philly. i do have my follow the leader single though. and the 7 inch.

scott seward, Sunday, 6 January 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

in philly, the video jukebox would just play microphone fiend over and over and over. that was the video channel you had to call into to request songs. well, a lot of people wanted to see microphone fiend, that's all i know.

scott seward, Sunday, 6 January 2008 18:51 (seventeen years ago)

follow the lesiure

PappaWheelie V, Sunday, 6 January 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

Video jukebox was the best, but my favorite Eric B. & Rakim song far and away is "Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em," which I also remember seeing a lot on video jukebox.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 6 January 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

that was big in philly for sure. let the rhythm hit 'em. i still have hours of video jukebox footage on vhs. and hours of dance party usa as well.

Forgot to vote for "Follow the Leader."

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

This should have had more votes, starting with KJB's.

The Reverend, Thursday, 10 January 2008 03:27 (seventeen years ago)

A winner is me

ledge, Thursday, 10 January 2008 12:25 (seventeen years ago)

sad, really. should we put an ad in the paper for more rap fans.

scott seward, Thursday, 10 January 2008 13:09 (seventeen years ago)

uh i can't find any rakim i like besides 'classic' and when he says the 'chorus' on follow the leader, and slug ruined that.

i'd pick "let the rhythm hit em" followed by "know the ledge" but paid in full is the best album they did
