Musics that aid and/or boost weight-lifting potential

Because I can find no such thread (cardio is different).

Best so far:

King Crimson - The ConstruKction of Light: 10/10

Hard and relentless all the way. Ability to lift heavy weights increases significantly. Best I've tried.

I once heard of a genre called weightliftercore. But the only mention of it I could find with Google is this:

KILLING TIME "Happy Hour" LP B lk13-12 Hard-assed NYHC i.e. "weight-lifter-core"; this is the... $9.00

It's from this site:

http://members.aye.net/~dattempt/DAmailordercat.html

Nothing remotely King Crimson on there, though.

ha, i wish i had something that would boost my weight-lifting potential! doesn't work like that for me though. different moods call for different music, including when i'm at the gym.

saxomophone, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

AC/DC-Powerage.

Guaran-fucking-teed.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

depeche mode: never let me down again (split mix). came on unexpectedly just as i was beginning bicep curls. nearly threw the fucking weights over my shoulder. pump/wham/pump/wham, for TEN GLORIOUS MINUTES.

my (admittedly wonderfully weird) pal the boyner -- who is absolutely fucking nails -- swears blind that humming the imperial death march to himself increases his crunch potential vastly.

Starship Trooper by Yes from the triple live LP, Yessongs.

Gorge, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

That's the best version of that song that I've heard.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

Indubitably!

Gorge, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

I'd suggest Helmet

Even though I have no experience in weightlifting, Killing Joke's "Love like Blood" always pumps me up.

Belldog, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

Meshuggah's "Future Breed Machine" is pretty much my theme song at the gym.

There was a whole weightliftcore scene around my college town! My band played with them a couple times. One band had a guy that actually did weights next to them while they played, and there was this 400 lb sweaty dude in the audience moshing with his shirt off--nearly crushed/drowned my friend. Was really hoping this would turn into a national trend, but sadly it never took off. One of the bands was called Roid Rage, I think.

Gold's Gym seems to think it's The Killers. The Killers every hour. Sometime different Killers songs. Sometimes not different Killers songs. Sometimes TWO Killers songs an hour. Hope you love The Killers. Hope you're coco crazy gaga for The Killers. The Killers. The Killers are on again.

The Killers

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 1 February 2010 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

cutty, could you see The Killers working EVERY HOUR? May I suggest The Killers for your workout? What about The Killers? What of The Killers? How 'bout some Killers.

The Killers

this one gym I used to go to would always be playing kiss from a rose when I was benching for some reason

super sexy psycho fantasy world (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 1 February 2010 17:37 (sixteen years ago)

Still, THE ABSOLUTE WORST song I've ever worked out to was a 7-minute-plus-change live (?) Pink Floyd (??) song around, oh, 70 BPM (???????). What sadist programs these things????

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 1 February 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

thought there would be metal all over this thread, tbh

Brad C., Monday, 1 February 2010 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

I could really use some of these recommendations. I've been going to my university's gym for six months now and they're always playing Rammstein and Metallica's black album. I need to give them something new to play there.
I've been testing several songs on my ipod while I'm running. I will start making playlists to post them here.

Moka, Monday, 1 February 2010 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

fuck buttons is great on the bike

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Monday, 1 February 2010 19:03 (sixteen years ago)

I like angry punk shit like Pissed Jeans, Germs, Reatard. Oneida also works pretty well.

Trip Maker, Monday, 1 February 2010 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm talking cardio, I don't lift much.

Trip Maker, Monday, 1 February 2010 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

cardio is a different beast for music but there is some overlap in what works

sir ilx-a-lot (cutty), Monday, 1 February 2010 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

yes, it's understandable.

Trip Maker, Monday, 1 February 2010 19:27 (sixteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

3-6 Mafia "tear the club up" for lifting. The gym is a club.

soviet, Sunday, 28 February 2010 00:53 (fifteen years ago)

unsane are undeniably effective in a hefting context.

m the g, Sunday, 28 February 2010 09:16 (fifteen years ago)

I listen to the Stooges a lot while lifting weights, but I think they're more effective for stalking around breathing through my nose between sets than they are for the weightlifting itself.
