Best of Terrorizer Top 50 Punk Albums Of All Time

Kind of an odd list since most of them are from post-1980, but given the source is not particularly surprising - a lot of crossover stuff on here. There's actually only 49 albums because #9 is missing for some reason!

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Why would they leave out a no9? Is that an unlucky number in punk?

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

Of those I own 31 and have heard 46!

Tell me about these:

23. Septic Death - Now That I Have The Attention What Do I Do With It?
43. Throw Bricks At Coppers - How Many More Brutal Fucking Police Murders?
47. Crumbsuckers - Life Of Dreams

Any good? I like some other Septic Death stuff, don't know that album though. Never heard either of the other 2.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

You tell me! You gave me the list ;)

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

Weird list but I guess the only way for something like this not to be 'weird' is to be totally canon, so kudos I guess. Whoever parachuted Hard Skin onto there is a hero. I think 'Cut' is probably my favourite thing on there though

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

I have a boot of that Septic Death album. I like it. Really ratty quasi-crossover type stuff

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

I assume that's meant to be the Slits' Cut - it said The Stilts on the list I got it from...

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

I wouldn't have picked that Conflict album - Increase The Pressure or It's Time To See Who's Who instead.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

Is this actually a new list or are we doing Terrorizer Wednesday?

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

I have a Septic Death comp (on mp3) called Crossed Out Twice or something similar - dunno if that contains anything from the album here but that was cool.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

The latter. Blame Herman!

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

no Pink Flag? bleh. if London Calling is on there then that one should be, too.

latebloomer, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

Dead Boys - Young, Loud And Snooty

I shan't need anyone
I shan't need Mummy or Daddy...

bendy, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

lol I knew I'd missed some more typos, the list was full of them.

Mummy's Little Monster? Is Mike Ness an anglophile, I dunno?

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

haha thats a good one. Im still voting dead boys though.
I think i know about 24 of these.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

Bad Brains - Rock For Light over Bad Brains - Bad Brains = RONG

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

number 9 must be flipper or the dicks!

69, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah that was def the one that stood out as a not-commonly-held opinion

xpost

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

'Generic' would actually be something I'd half expect to see in a list like this but the chance of a bunch of Britishers putting a Dicks album in is pretty remote

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

I'd like to know what no9 was. If we pretend it was flipper then i want to change my vote!

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

oh wait there is no number 9 option. Damn

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

'Generic' would actually be something I'd half expect to see in a list like this but the chance of a bunch of Britishers putting a Dicks album in is pretty remote

48. MDC - Millions Of Dead Cops

69, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

MDC play over here, I don't think the Dicks ever have.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

That was my reasoning, I think a lot of anarcho/crusty dudes are into MDC, Dicks probably not so much

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

This is a terrible list! No X-Ray Spex, Adverts, Vibrators, Buzzcocks, Wire, Siouxsie, Jam, Saints, Slaughter and The Dogs....

Dr.C, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Adverts were terrific.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

ohh i didnt know MDC played there, fair enough

69, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

plastic surgery diasters, by a hair.

it makes absolutely no sense that this is placed lower than bedtime for democracy, which is by far and away DK's weakest effort.

m the g, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, they certainly weren't breaking barriers w/ that one but if I was gonna do like a CDR of DKs stuff it would definitely have a fair few tracks from BFD on there

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

agreed. not saying it's a bad album as such, just not great compared to the rest of their stuff. there are certainly two or three classics on it.

plastic surgery utterly destroys it, is all.

m the g, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

i can't vote in these things. too many good records. and then you throw fun house in there, i mean, really. i can't choose between death church and from the cradle to the grave. that's just silly. to give one example.

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

You can just play them all to keep in with the spirit of the colonels poll then!

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

My heart says Damned Damned Damned, my head is too busy choosing between Cut and London Calling.

"This is a terrible list! No X-Ray Spex, Adverts, Vibrators, Buzzcocks, Wire, Siouxsie, Jam, Saints, Slaughter and The Dogs...."

Not to mention Adam & The Ants, Alternative TV, Angelic Upstarts, Blondie, Boys, Devo, Dickies, Dictators, Heartbreakers, Richard Hell, Lurkers, Modern Lovers, Penetration, Pere Ubu, Rezillos, Ruts, Patti Smith, Stiff Little Fingers, Stranglers, Subway Sect, Suicide, Swell Maps, Talking Heads, Television, Undertones, X....

Stewart Osborne, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Stupid that they think that Rocket to Russia is better than the debut. Just stupid. "The Ramones" is the best punk album of all time.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

Terrorirzer are morons.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

i like Terrorizer. it's a good magazine.

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe so, but these lists blow chunks.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

no Screamers no credibility

Stevie D, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

this list is just weird. not really bad. it just feels really random. it's actually a lot like a list i might make. go thru your records until you've got 50 that fit the bill.

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

"no Screamers no credibility"

they never made an album!

scott seward, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

To be fair they'd have to have actually released an album to be eligible!
Although I doubt Terrorizer would have included them anyway.

xxpost

yeah, it's not a bad list - most of these I either own or want to.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

No Minutemen, no credibility.

(Okay, I'm half-joking. But only half.)

MacDara, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

"this list is just weird. not really bad. it just feels really random."

I'd be prepared to wager that it was produced by someone (or someones) who is (or are predominantly) (a) British, and (b) at least a couple of years younger than I am (I'm rapidly approaching 45).

"No Minutemen, no credibility."

In this company, I'd suggest: no Minutemen, no Circle Jerks, no Descendents, no Flipper, no Fugazi, no Mission Of Burma, no Meat Puppets, no Replacements, no Sonic Youth: not American (or if they are then they're engaged in some strange inter-state one-upmanship that is beyond my comprehension).

Stewart Osborne, Thursday, 10 January 2008 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

Well Terrorizer's a British metal mag. Most of the stuff on that list has a bit more cachet with metal dudes than most of the stuff people have deemed notable by its absence. Not all of it (eg Slits), but most of it

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 10 January 2008 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Aaaaaah. Now that you say that, I can't help but wonder how Cut managed to sneak in there at all.

It also makes me wonder why Killing Joke aren't on there....

Stewart Osborne, Thursday, 10 January 2008 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

It's a strange omission, esp as KJ get loads of terrorizer coverage.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 10 January 2008 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

Alex check no 50.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 11 January 2008 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

Terrorizer list >>>> Kerrang list. Although there's some great albums on the K list that aren't on the T list (yes, including no. 50!)

Colonel Poo, Friday, 11 January 2008 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

I'm guessing that's from about 2001? Right now I would rather listen to Dookie than a hueg swathe of either list

DJ Mencap, Friday, 11 January 2008 09:24 (eighteen years ago)

One of my ten fave albums of anything ever is still the Pistols'. Where can I shoplift that Discharge record from? (I live in Seattle.)

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 11 January 2008 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

"It's a strange omission, esp as KJ get loads of terrorizer coverage."

There's no 'Joke here either: "Terrorizer" magazine's "Best Album Of The Eighties"

Stewart Osborne, Friday, 11 January 2008 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

There is on Best Album From Terrorizer's Most Important Albums Of The Nineties

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 11 January 2008 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

"London Calling". A great album that is so much more than just punk.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 11 January 2008 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

I thought Geir would've voted Scum

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 11 January 2008 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

London Calling features a song not written by the artist. Surely this cannot be forgiven?

Also the Misfits were quite melodic, no?

Colonel Poo, Friday, 11 January 2008 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

Only heard some danzig era songs and they sounded pretty melodic .

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 11 January 2008 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

V. odd list. Still, at least they are all Punk albums, and there's no contrarian inclusion of Scritti Politti et al.

Voted for the ol' warhorse most folk here seem to love to hate, waiting to see if I'm the only one.

Soukesian, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

V. odd list. Still, at least they are all Punk albums, and there's no contrarian inclusion of Scritti Politti et al.

Someone is bound to complain now you pointed that out.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, wouldn't be ILM otherwise, amiright?

Soukesian, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

How very true.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

i'm kind of shocked no minutemen or wire. barring either "pink flag" or "double nickels," i'm voting for "machine gun ettiquette" for no other reason than it's fucking awesome.

Emily Bjurnhjam, Friday, 11 January 2008 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

It truly is fucking awesome.

Soukesian, Friday, 11 January 2008 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

No Husker Du.

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 12 January 2008 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

No credibility

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 12 January 2008 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

For those who exceeded the time limit, the correct answer is Rudimentary Peni - Death Church.

DustinR, Saturday, 12 January 2008 12:31 (eighteen years ago)

Hows post-danzig Misfits stuff?

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 12 January 2008 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 14 January 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

ilx goes sXe

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

List makes a lot more sense in that order.

Soukesian, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

A few of the albums with 0 votes surprises me.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

I always thought Out of Step was an EP.
