Ok... it's more 'bandy'. There's a relatively faithful cover of 'Under Pressure' with Michael Gira.

It's the most live sounding and immediate Xiu Xiu since 'Fabulous Muscles' but has a broader range.

I think the whole thang is available streaming off their myspace at the moment too.

is this referencing the elfriede jelinek novel or something?..

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

Gira does Queen - an inspired move.

As for the rest of the album I'm holding out for good quality, but "I Do What I Want When I Want" is solid.

Under Pressure is hilariously good. I'm digging this record.

i think this band are one of the worst to have ever existed

I don't know about ''one of the worst that ever existed,'' but I can't take listening to them.

Love Fabulous Muscles, nothing since, so I'm curious. MySpace Track is boring, Under Pressure just a credible, slightly fucked-with cover. Fun, but no big deal. Any other recommended tracks?

contenderizer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

I'd recommend "White Nerd", "Black Keyboard", or "No Friend Oh!". (I'm assuming "I Do What I Want When I Want" is the MySpace track).

i am really, really enjoying this album. the first half is solid but the second half is quite excellent.

Under Pressure is throwaway crap, and that's coming from a guy who normally loves WTF Xiu Xiu covers.

My opinion thus far, after about 1.5 listens: this band is on autopilot.

See, that's what I thought after the last one. This one has reignited my interest in a big way.

ha ... that's what *I* thought after "La Foret", but "The Air Force" felt like a smashing return to form, or at least it did at the time ... I like it a lot less now :/

There are 7 (!) bonus tracks on the iTunes version; weirder and noisier. One is called "There Are Two Men In a Red Mercedes Trying to Rape a Woman In My Parking Lot" that's an oddly pretty phased keyboard thing.
