After The Monks broke up in the 60s, Dave stayed in Germany, eventually becoming more or less homeless and forgetting how to speak English. He later relearned it by reading comic books. He told this story at a reading of Black Monk Time before the first Monks reunion and had the audience in tears, if I remember any of this correctly.
