Holy shit this is an affecting album. Way too hard to pick a favourite.

i wanna go for Mother combined with Goodbye Blue Sky.

if i have to choose... maybe Mother, just cuz it's more substantive. but when Goodbye Blue Sky comes in i kind of lose it.

and rly in terms of domination, i feel like Another Brick In The WAll will be more likely to do so rather than Comfortably Numb. over time i think comfortably numb grows a little too old, whereas another brick in the wall remains fresh, catchy and fierce.

"The Thin Ice", preferably combined with "In the Flesh?"

"Comfortably Numb" is in a league of its own on this album.

Nobody Home never gets enough props.

"Comfortably Numb" is prob the best but I'm tempted to pick "Goodbye Blue Sky" or "One of My Turns."

Gotta go with Another Brick pt 2. Best thing they ever did. I love that Ezrin went over their heads and edited their 1 1/2 minute performance into a single (supposedly they adamantly refused to play another verse, so Ezrin just spliced on the previous one, added the kids' voices, and voila! Best PF single/song ever).

Comfortably Numb has always been beautiful but the stodgy-arena-rock-ness of can be tiresome.

Nobody Home is great.

I like Bring The Boys Back Home. But I like the entire album, and when I listen to it I usually listen to it in its entirety.

Yeah, that one is great. I also have a lot of love for Mother (no pun intended). I voted for Comfortably Numb though.

voted for "The Trial" but Comfortably Numb is probably the best. Nobody Home not far off either.

I do not approve of this album, all things told, but it's a damn sight better than what was to follow.

what's not to approve, louis? it's a fucking tour de force.

i went with 'comfortably numb'. it's a difficult album to pick apart because it's designed to flow together conceptually and is for the most part pretty seamless. it also happens that i know every lyric back to front. but, well... 'comfortably numb' is one of the greatest songs in history

Too many of the songs I find (or found; I haven't heard it in over 3 years) bland, and the concept is just a bit puerile. Some good stuff, though, and at least the filler tracks are over quickly!

what i find difficult about the album is the lack of variability in the production. by the end, i've grown tired of the style.

It is a rather bludgeoning record.

If I could vote for more than one, I'd vote for the "Vera/Bring the Boys Back Home" sequence. Failing that, I've always loved "Hey You," so that's what I'm voting for.

I haven't heard any of this in years, apart from the handful of biggies. Just reading the titles reminds me how even the best songs here seem to drag on and on - slo-o-o-ow even by Pink Floyd standards. Just like on DSOTM, they put the word "Run" in the title of the "fastest" track to give the illusion of speed, even though they barely approach midtempo. "Comfortably Numb"'s classic, but I've no need to hear it right now, thanks. If there's one song I'd most like to hear right now, it would be "Goodbye Blue Sky".

Technically on The Final Cut, but yeah. Great to see "Mother" and "Nobody Home" getting some love... hell, I could almost vote for "Vera Lynn"...

But trite as it may be, "Comfortably Numb" is just epic, and has two of the finest guitar solos of the guitar solo era. What I wouldn't give to be able to hear it fresh.

"Hey You" and "In The Flesh" definitely deserve attention too... shit, this poll makes me feel like a big rock dinosaur but damn if it's not a great album.

that's cool, louis. i only really discovered 'the wall' properly at a time when i was determined to make pink floyd my favourite band. and that time is long gone :)

"Is There Anybody Out There" is beautiful. Obviously one of the better tracks on that album.

But I still like what they did from 1971 to 1977 so much better!

I hate this album. I could pare it down to an e.p. - or maybe even a maxi single. "Goodbye Blue Sky" is my vote. I hope somebody votes for "Run Like Hell", but it's in some pretty serious company.

I honestly can't decide -- it actually may well be "Goodbye Blue Sky" but that seems...kind of underwhelming.

BTW, can anyone tell me why Roger said "Oooh, Babe" roughly 4,029 times from this album forward?

Mother and In The Flesh got a raw deal.

listening to this for the first time in an eternity. this was the first album I ever bought with my own money, when it was new. I still remember hearing Another Brick Pt 2 for the first time on the radio.

obv a lot of this has not aged well, but I gotta shake my head that Another Brick Pt 1 was robbed here, that is my go-to for testing out any new stereo change or upgrade.

I also vividly remember listening to a contemporary radio interview with Waters, where they went through the whole album song by song, and Waters shot down a lot of the interviewer's gushing nonsense. When they got to the last track, the interviewer gushed again about how it was the key to the whole album and Waters was like "actually I don't have anything to say about this one".

That's awesome. But poor interviewer.

And interstellar, yeah, that's true. I think he's one of the best lyricists alive, but he seems to confine the poetry and wisdom to the songs.

The Wall is as formative as albums get, scared the fuck out of me when I was a kid (especially combined with the meat grinder sequence in the movie -- cue eight years of nightmares), but/therefore I listened to it obsessively and memorized the lyric sheet, and could still probably sing you the whole album acapella. Amused to Death scared me even more. Nowadays Amused to Death is one of my favorite albums ever and The Wall I hardly listen to (or play the live version when I do! the reverby arena acoustics suited this vibe better). At ten years old I'd have voted The Trial, easy. Now I'm not so sure. "Stop" is a perfect little interlude, that might have been my pick. For sheer beauty though, Is There Anybody Out There.
