So we bought a triple-pack of these for the house;
http://www.recordstore.co.uk/images/covers/ministryofsound/ArtVinyl-300.jpg
But, aside from the fact that Emma can't decide where she wants them to go, I dunno what to put in them! We've not got masses of vinyl, but that's almost not a concern - I just want suggestions of what LP covers YOU would put on your wall, to get ideas.
I actually bought this on 12" at the same time, just cos Emma loves the cover;

I've wanted to do that for ages, where did you buy the frames from? And what do you do with the vinyl if the cover's on your wall?

I got them via Amazon, but they actually ship direct from Art Vinyl themselves, they've obviously got an arrangement. The record stays inside the cover if you want - they're very well designed that way. They're not cheap but they look very good, better than any other comparable thing I've seen.
― Scik Mouthy, Friday, 11 January 2008 10:13 (eighteen years ago)
Cool, thanks, I'm going to order some right now.

Good to know that *someone* likes them! I bought a three-pack for my sister as a flat-warming present, but she hasn't hung them yet and it's been a couple of months, so I'm worried it was a dud purchase. (She has a massive soul/funk/jazz/boogie/rare groove vinyl collection, so it's not as if she's stuck for source material.)

― If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 11 January 2008 10:31 (eighteen years ago)
Nick, they're designed so that you can slip records in and out as you please... no need to "choose"!
I got one of these for my uncle (they are exorbitantly expensive if you think about what is actually involved in their construction) and his wife got me one too. We had no idea beforehand. Spooky...
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 11 January 2008 11:48 (eighteen years ago)
This is true; I'm just imaging laziness will mean that after a couple of weeks of changing the contents every five minutes we'll end up with some permanent fixtures!

My girlfriend's really into modernist art, German stuff, the bauhaus etc; can anyone think of anything appropriate that I could get her as a present? Preferably something I'd be likely to find cheap online or something!

i bought smaller, standard, cheap square frames and cut sleeves down to size :/
i have three: the two inner images from new order's "substance" either side of the chimney breast, and the yellow "fine time" 12" on the wall. ISTR spencer chow saying he has the latter on a wall, too :)

Are there 45 frames out there? Found a bunch of late-70s Jerry Lee Lewis Sun 45s that aren't worth much but would look great hanging up somewhere.
found an early pressing of this one in my grandfather's records. Definitely going in a frame:

x-post:
Nick, is that a Zest bucket chair there? They're the most comfortable thing ever invented and I've been trying to persuade my wife that we need one for ages. Her only objection is that she would never get to sit in it...
My tuppence on the frames: I think they look good, especially with suitable sleeves in them. Not really sure how they are any more dorm room-y than any other framed poster or artwork?
― Bill A, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
until i can afford artwork that doesn't come from the dollarstore, it will have to do.
― bell_labs, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
Haha, Bill it is indeed a Zest bucket chair and it is indeed as comfortable as... well, some weird comfortable dream, or something. I've actually just bumped the audiophile snake-oil thread where I talk about it. When we bought the house we had some money left over, I wanted a chair, Emma wanted a cat. We got the cat, then I got a bonus, now the cat's in the chair. Perfect.
― Scik Mouthy, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 15:21 (seventeen years ago)
I may be able to use that snake-oil thread as ammunition: If we don't get the Zest chair then I'll buy some speakers the size of wardrobes.
In addition, my missus wants a dog, so a similar compromise could also be brokered although I have strong suspicion we'd end up with dog sat on Zest and me sat on normal sofa listening to MS-1s (and scowling at dog).
― Bill A, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)
Thinking about it, Em probably sits in ours more than I do (and she objected to us buying it because it's ugly more than anything else), simply because if I'm on the iMac in that room she generally comes and reads in the chair with the cat on her lap. Then when I want to sit in it, I can't.
The contentedness on show here might win you the argument, too;
