Which is the better Sheena sex-vixen routine? I prefer "Strut," actually, for that grrrate is-it-woodblock percussion that comes and goes.

STRUT, in, er, a walk...

Eena Sheaston is one of those 1980s starbusts I always wished was better than she actually was. Her postfeminist pumps made her fall down on the pop assembly line much more often than they gave her ground to ride it into transcendence. I'll take the perfect product of "Strut" over "Sugar Walls" which required a porny minimalism she had no instinct for (Prince, on the other hand...). Still, it offered Wanda Sykes this great line: "I got some sugar walls, baby. They just suck all the anger right out of a man."

"Sugar Walls" has that great synth riff, but she doesn't really do anything with it.
Meanwhile "Strut" almost has an "I Can Dream About You" rhythm and vibe: an ethereal, confident sexiness.

Yeah, "Sugar Walls" might've worked better had they beefed up the orientalism. But then...

But then you get Aneka's "Japanese Boy."

Random trivia I learned tonight: Prince's pseudonym for writing "Sugar Walls" was Alexander Nevermind. Much better than the Jamie Starr name he used for his work with The Time.
