I'm cool with it.

Many aren't paying attention dearest dildo.

Why does SFJ never want to rock?
― The Reverend, Sunday, 13 January 2008 07:06 (eighteen years ago)
Because it's too white, Reverend.

Grinderman was classified as "Rock and Roll" on the AMG in 2007

I don't listen to rock, so I wouldn't mind if it disappeared.

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u120/kingkonggodzilla/Bowser.jpg I don't care what people say; rock 'n' roll is here to stay.
― kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 13 January 2008 10:22 (eighteen years ago)
I mean, when was rock n roll last a genre?
― kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 13 January 2008 10:45 (eighteen years ago)
Was there an official decision or something?
― Colonel Poo, Sunday, 13 January 2008 13:13 (eighteen years ago)
What are you talking about? I mean it's still a genre in my collection, there are still bands you can go and see.
Are you asking us if that would be OK? If so, well, no.

I always find this a kinda puzzling assertion - genre stratification/taxonomy doesn't eliminate the parent tree: all the metal/indie rock/etc etc in the world is still rock and roll I think
― J0hn D., Sunday, 13 January 2008 15:58 (eighteen years ago)
J0hn D OTM, which is why I remember being so frickin' annoyed (I mean, more so than usual) with Rolling Stone back in 2001 when they were talking about the Strokes, White Stripes et al as a sign that 'rock is back.' Morons.

All I mean is, whatever happened to bands calling themselves Rock N' Roll?
Or the old school Rock N' Roll sound?
I think I was feeling a little nostalgiac after listening to Bill Haley and His Comets and then finding out that there is no listing on Myspace for the genre "Rock N Roll" (I mean, there is "rock" but who took the "roll" out of Rock N Roll?).
I feel like the simplicity behind early Rock N Roll is gone, there was a lot of heart in it back then and not so much intellectual (or as is the case with ninety-nine percent of the bands out there: pseudo-intellectual lyrics.)
Not even just the lyrics but the whole sound of just music coming from the heart...
I would call some of the older Bruce Springsteen stuff a good example of true Rock N Roll.

How about Jonathan Richman?
― Mark Rich@rdson, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 03:47 (eighteen years ago)
shit loads of great rock being played live at small dive bars by young kids with a lot of love in their hearts.
― nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 04:22 (eighteen years ago)
who took the "roll" out of Rock N Roll?
95 percent of the bands who ever tried to play it. but that doesn't mean it isn't there anymore. it just means you've got to seek out the other 5 percent if'n that's what's you're looking for.

we cannot help you captain romantic
― Edward III, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 04:27 (eighteen years ago)
I put pretty much anything that isn't hip hop or dance music under a "rock'n'roll" tag on my iTunes (specifically that phrase mostly to weed out rap songs with "rock" in the title).
― Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 04:30 (eighteen years ago)
so what would you do with schoolly d's "I don't like rock 'n' roll"?
