Following a Band on the Road - Dos and Don’ts

Long story short: I’m supposed to cover this local band over the course of a two-week tour, and while I feel reasonably prepared, I figure there must be a reservoir of experience round these parts — hard-earned lessons, journalistic epiphanies, etc. What about whether to drink or not, for example? I imagine it may look a bit weird not to, but on the other hand, I tend to blackout whenever I do. Questions abound, really.

Also, what about graft? :D

Definitely do what you can to avoid blacking out.

That sounds reasonable. Another thing I’ve been thinking about: when talking to people, should you flaunt that you’re a reporter, or is it better pretending you’re just hanging around?

Don't tell anyone you're a reporter unless you are interviewing them or they specifically ask "what are you doing here?"

yeah just hanging around is where you get all the good stuff anyway.

(by good stuff i mean observational journalistic material, not weed and booze and coke. although probably that too.)
