just found this:

So where did cosmic disco get its name from? Apparently, it was all started near Verona by an Italian named Daniele Baldelli who ran the ‘Cosmic’ night from '79 to '84, and played as a resident DJ in a few of the big clubs at the time. Mixing strange jazz and classical records, with disco grooves (many of them at the wrong speed), he was a Djing pioneer at the time, pushing the limited technology to its limit. People even turned up to where he was playing and wouldn’t even go in! They’d just park up in their cars, take drugs, and listen to Baldelli’s tapes that were circulating at the time.

are any modern artists creating cosmic disco? studio, mountain of one, are they it? whats the standard bpm? soundz used? real instruments or DAW?

Cosmic Music, Italy, early '80s

there's been a confusion in terms. Generally, people use the term cosmic disco to mean what has traditionally been called "space disco", which is what it sounds like, electronic/futuristic eurodisco, stuff like Space, Cerrone, Slick's Space Bass, Conquest of the Stars etc...

"Cosmic" as a scene in italy was a specific club and a set of DJs who played a mix of slowed down disco, krautrock, new wave and tribal/african type stuff. They played some space disco, but they were also opposed to certain strains of italo-disco for not being funky enough.

i think it's great fun. though i'd say that it's drum-heavy new wave rather than cosmic disco or cosmic rock.
