How it works:
You can vote for up 20 albums AND 20 tracks. That's 40 total. They are not transferable, so you cannot vote for 1 album and 39 tracks.
You may vote in one of two ways: ordered and non-ordered. You can order your list, and I will give 20 points to your #1 ranked item and 1 point to your #20th ranked item. Be sure when sending me your ballot that your top-ranked item is at the top of the list. If you can't be bothered, you can submit an unranked list and each item will receive 10 points.
Blurbs, anecdotes, etc are welcomed...please put an asterisk by anything you voted for that you wouldn't mind contributing a piece about, or if there's something you didn't nominate but would still like to write about, you're welcome to mention it.
How to format your ballot
This may seem like an odd request, but as you read the list and pick which albums and tracks you wish to nominate, please COPY the text of it directly from the site and PASTE it to your email ballot. Consistent formatting will shave off countless hours of work on my part. With the way I use Excel to count the votes, even one uncapitalized letter can throw things off. And don't affix numbers/points to your votes either. Just tell me whether it's ordered or not, and if it's ordered make sure that its highest placing is at the top, lowest placing at the bottom, etc.
Finally, you're welcome to nominate the worst songs of the year...if there's any consensus I'll name and shame a few of them.
The list of nominations is here. Email address is seattleDOTmaryATgmailDOTcom. Sample ballot is below.

What if someone submits an ordered list of only 10 albums? Will the top album still receive 20 points?
What if someone submits an unordered list of only 10 albums? Will they still all receive 10 points?

Toward the end of the nominating process, I used my nominations to cover anything on my year-end list not already covered up through 15th place in albums and 12th place in tracks. When voting in this, I had to go down to #27 on my albums list to get 20 nominated options, and would've had to go down to #40 if I hadn't slipped in one album I hadn't heard in time for my original list a few weeks ago (Amerie), with only 2 more nominated in my top 50. And I had to go to #32 on my singles list to get 20 nominated options. Not saying this to complain or criticize the poll, in a way I like the challenging of whittling down the options, I just want to note an example of the ways the nominations process can shape ballots.
― Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 17 January 2008 03:04 (eighteen years ago)
No, if you only nominate two ordered things, they would receive 20 and 19 points respectively. Alternatively, if you nominate fewer than 20 unordered things, they would all receive 10 points regardless (so you can't nominate two things only and bank points to give them both 100 pts).
― musically, Thursday, 17 January 2008 21:55 (eighteen years ago)
Made some minor changes to the list of noms...some spelling changes and took 45:33 off the trax list and left it on the albums list. I swear we had the exact same problem last year. I've received lots of ballots so far, keep it up!
― musically, Monday, 21 January 2008 15:32 (eighteen years ago)
To be honest, I'd only vote for two new albums, the "Voice of the Seven Woods" one and the good ol' "ILX Vol 3: ILX Has a Bucket" compilation.
So, go you lot!

― musically, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 02:28 (eighteen years ago)
I voted for the Fantasia remix (I put the original "When I See U" on my Pazz & Jop and Idolator ballots, and just substituted the remix for it in this poll since that was what was already nominated).
― Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 03:45 (eighteen years ago)
Were there any good emo releases at all that someone might like if they love Decemberunderground, Three Cheers.., and A Fever... and quite like From Under the Cork Tree, Beautiful Lie, and What to Do When You Are Dead but were crushingly disappointed by Black Parade? I'm really hesitant to give Infinity On High a chance.
― Sundar, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

I liked the Paramore album, Say Anything's In Defense Of The Genre, and Infinity On High, in that order (and I liked Infinity more than the previous Fall Out Boy album, and was also really disappointed by MCR).
― Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 05:41 (eighteen years ago)
Infinity goes in kind of an entirely different direction than The Black Parade. Full out guitar pop rather than classic rock posturing. They aren't really comparable. I like both, but the former moreso.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:51 (eighteen years ago)
I've done a preliminary count, and so far there are lots of little ties within the top 50, so please vote if you haven't, as your contribution might shape who makes the short list and who doesn't. Exciting!
― musically, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 19:46 (eighteen years ago)
Say Anything sounds like it may be good. I guess I'll give Infinity On High a chance but R&B/pop-pop crossover efforts aren't really what I look for when it comes to this stuff. (Maybe I've got the wrong impression of what it sounds like.) I want emo that sounds like, you know, emo, just gothed-out and radio-friendly. Well-crafted high-energy melodic guitar melodrama with strained tenors. Sunny Day Real Estate with stylists and (over-)producers or something. Someone's got to be able to milk the formula successfully for a couple albums!
I did like the Billy Talent album, which wasn't nominated, unfortunately.
― Sundar, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 23:02 (eighteen years ago)
(I am more open-minded than that sounds, and I did kind of like "This Ain't a Scene..." I just worry about these bands losing what I found interesting about them when they 'diversify'.)
― Sundar, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 23:24 (eighteen years ago)
I wish I'd waited for my Amazon order to turn up before I voted, Spoon would definitely have made my top 3 albums.
― nate woolls, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 23:26 (eighteen years ago)
I'd say "This Ain't A Scene" and the Jay-Z cameo are kind of red herrings, Sunday, for the most part the album is straight up guitar pop like The Reverend said, with a welcome little bit of piano and bells and whistles here and there.
― Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 23:31 (eighteen years ago)

Did anyone vote for Kylie - Two Hearts (Studio Version) thinking that it was the single version? I'm thinking definitely yes!!
― musically, Friday, 8 February 2008 20:18 (eighteen years ago)
"Did anyone vote for Kylie - Two Hearts (Studio Version) thinking that it was the single version? I'm thinking definitely yes!!"
I presumed it was the album version and voted for it on that basis. Does the "Studio Version" differ from the album version? Does the album version differ from the single version?
― Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 9 February 2008 08:25 (eighteen years ago)
Are you going to treat the different versions as separate entries or will you lump them together, like the SOMB singles poll?
― Billy Dods, Saturday, 9 February 2008 09:46 (eighteen years ago)
looking forward to results
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 9 February 2008 10:10 (eighteen years ago)
"Studio" is actually a remix outfit. The album and single version are the same AFAIK. There's really nothing to combine vote-wise as the single edit of the song was not nominated (presumably because people thought it had already been nominated) but I think I will call it just "2 Hearts" and treat it as a combination of votes for the two. To make it fair, I'll go through the rest of the list and do it for any other song pairings.
