To me, its the perfect AC/DC song, showcasing everything great about the band - blistering riff, killer bass (and rhythm guitar!), Bon Scott just GOING for it, shrieking the vocal like his life depended on it. SO fucking great!
What's a better AC/DC song?

"Bad Boy Boogie" ... "Whole Lotta Rosie" ... "Let There Be Rock" .. "Overdose" (which is pure Space Rock onna Hawkwind level) .. "Go Down" .. "Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be" ... basically, yeah, the whole Let There Be Rock album is the equal or better of Riff Raff. It's their best album by far, pure snapping power lines. Powerage is way inferior.

The Let There Be Rock / Powerage / Highway To Hell trilogy is pretty unmatched. I would never rate any of them below a 9.9, but Powerage gets the 10.

Better AC/DC song = "Sin City"

Insane. Powerage their best by far. Gimme a Bullet came on my Ipod at the gym today and I instantly became fucking invincible.

A goddamn what a great song What's Next to the Moon is.
― Bill Magill, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)
I meant "And goddamn.."
as a relatively recent convert to the DC cause, I must concur with the original poster's sentiments. 'riff raff' is the one that got me instantly hooked, but I've yet to find anything quite so fucking amazing. it's their greatest achievement.
highway to hell doesn't sit right with me, but that's entirely a production thing really. waaaaay too smooth for my ears.

Have you heard the Riff Raff on "If You Want Blood..."? Awesome.
― Bill Magill, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 16:12 (eighteen years ago)
"Powerage" is indisputedly the band's high-water mark.
― kwhitehead, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 16:15 (eighteen years ago)
indeed. twas my first DC album, and still my favourite. much better than the studio stuff.
― m the g, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 16:20 (eighteen years ago)
i go back and forth between powerage and ltbr as the numero uno of the DC canon but at the moment it's hard to conceive of ANYTHING kicking more ass than "whole lotta rosie" so i'd have to go with that. "riff raff" does rule though.

Rosie's great on IYWB as well, with the "Angus" chants
― Bill Magill, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 17:39 (eighteen years ago)
Powerage is the shit!
― Ioannis, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)
Powerage is of ridiculously high quality front to back.
― Bill Magill, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 17:51 (eighteen years ago)
"Riff Raff" is definitely the go-to track Angus-wise

i'm enjoying all the 'powerage' love on this board. even though i might give the nod to 'back in black' as best ac/dc record overall, i rate 'powerage' extremely highly. 'sin city' is simply my favourite track of theirs, 'rock 'n' roll damnation' is a scorching, balls-to-the-wall opener, and 'next to the moon' and 'up to my neck in you' are, of course, unstoppable.
and yep, 'riff raff' is great.

Riff Raff is great. Allow me to be the opposition re Powerage. It's a little muted and dull - they seem to have run out of riffs (except for Riff Raff, which is riff raffish). They seem a tiny bit tired at times. Bon seems a little depressed. Let There Be Rock has more naked enthusiasm, a more original set of songs, especially lyrically, and the band seem to be more smokin' and aggressive. Best of all, Let There Be Rock has Let There Be Rock! Powerage is definitely a great album, don't get me wrong. That is all. I will shut up now.

Riff Raff from IYWB is my all time favourite AC/DC

"It's a little muted and dull"
Are you listening to the same Powerage I am? The one by AC/DC? With the guy with electric cords for hands on the cover? Check that one out then get back to us, because I think you're talking about something else.
― Bill Magill, Thursday, 17 January 2008 15:00 (eighteen years ago)
i can see what he's saying though - at least as far as the actual sound of the record goes. it's a poppier production job than ltbr, sounds cleaner and more studio (not that that's necessarily a bad thing), while ltbr gives much more of a "your face in front of an amp" kinda effect.
― pretzel walrus, Thursday, 17 January 2008 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
powerage gets points for a consistent theme (i just got dumped for the first time in my life as a badass, I think I may have to kill someoneeveryone). The hits on Rock are also on the live one and that basically leaves you with "Goin Down."
