Albums/songs wherein the little parts make all the difference

sometimes it's that bridge, or the end of the song, the handclaps in the middle of the phrase or the slight echo or harmony beneath the vox that make it.

hmm.

Kristin Hersh -- the jeep song on Sunny Border Blue ("driving around in your souped-up jeep"). that one line just kills me. the vocal delivery.

Kate Bush -- "murderer, murderer" in Hello, Earth. gets me weak at the knees. the instruments swell to this thickness, ugh.

The Breeders -- the end of "When I Was A Painter," just for those drums by themselves. sexy.

Mary J Blige -- new album, all the transitions between the songs. like 30 seconds worth of music, but so completely satisfying.

i feel this way about Goodbye Blue Sky on The Wall. kind of a small dot in the realm of the whole album but packs a bigger punch.

KATE BUSH AERIAL is a huge ex. Painter's Link, for instance. or the end of Mrs. Bartolozzi.

In the song Sound and Vision by Bowie, that little "pissht!" sound.

You know what I mean.

Nick Cave - Red Right Hand. The bell pulls it all together.

Undertones - Teenage Kicks
Sublime, perfect use of hand claps sprinkled throughout. *Perfect*perfect*perfect exclamation of "...Alright!" - not overused, not gratuitous, but placed like freakin' maraschino cherries to garnish the sundae this song so obviously is.

gotta love a smart handclap

Surmounter, Friday, 18 January 2008 04:00 (eighteen years ago)

the Sci-Fi tractor beam effects on that Alicia Keys song "No One" that the whole world loves. According to Dorkipedia, it's a horn synth played backwards. Smoking good stuff to dream that up!

Chelvis, Friday, 18 January 2008 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

ohh i gotta put that on

Surmounter, Friday, 18 January 2008 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

i like that song but the universal love thing IS slightly bizarre. however, when i put it on i sense the grower thing about it.

Every song on "More Songs About Buildings and Food" have amazing little Eno-y synth things going on in the background that totally make the album a headphone masterpiece. "With Our Love" and "Found a Job" especially.
