since everything related's scattered all over the place, here be a new thread to shame us into pulling our bassline socks up this year. funky, ukg and other hopefully myriad chart-not-chart fallouts welcome too obv.

smugpolice too, a b-line blog you don't have to be aware of being run by a bloke seriously calling himself 'continuum' to steal from.

Here's TS7's "Stone Island" which I talked about briefly in my 2007 thread:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/66005616b140c1/
"Also check out the awesome “Stone Island”, which includes eerie choral vocals and a bizarre synthetic flute solo."
It reminds me a bit of Low Deep grime instrumentals from back in the day.
― Tim F, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:38 (eighteen years ago)
guh i JUST downloaded that ej 16 tape just for that!! 48 minutes of rapidshare waiting now cos of you! i'm a busy man!
ooh that is jaunty flute - lowdeepish 4real. he really did fall right off the map didnt he, v strange.
― r|t|c, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:48 (eighteen years ago)
course, that ghosts n goblins miniphase of grime was noncoincidentally also the brief period of time when it looked like grime was finally opening up to the rest of the uk - lowdeep and imp batch were from er, luton and milton keynes respectively, i think
― r|t|c, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:50 (eighteen years ago)
rtc, did you recommend Ghetto's "There Like (Oh Oh)" to me? It's like a grime track secretly about bassline rather than a grime-bassline crossover track if that makes sense...
If you didn't recommend it to me I'll upload it.
― Tim F, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

yeah gimme plz! it def wasnt me, i can't stand ghetto.
Ha ha I just checked and it turns out it's from 2005. Turns out it was the one grime track that some chancer sharing lots of bassline had. Love those moments of implicit critique.
Not really worth uploading on its own. I'll find something else to couple it with.
― Tim F, Thursday, 17 January 2008 13:13 (eighteen years ago)
is that off limewire? i must say, having to draw for the limewire again instead of slsk and blogs is when you know something is right again in the world.
― r|t|c, Thursday, 17 January 2008 13:18 (eighteen years ago)
Yes. Also record companies seem to have grown tired of flooding Limewire with fake versions of tracks, hooray. Not that anyone would bother doing that with bassline tracks.
Here is Ghetto ft. Juvee, Cyko & Gappy - "There Like (Oh Oh)" (warning folks, this ain't bassline): http://www.zshare.net/audio/660139136c8b62/
Here is TS7 - "Suntan" - great disembodied diva cries of anguish and abandonment: http://www.zshare.net/audio/660161181291de/
The great thing about these bassline tracks is they're so quick to upload!
― Tim F, Thursday, 17 January 2008 13:30 (eighteen years ago)
gappy ranks does a good alozade impression. who knew?
so ok, sorry already bassline, but i believe it is u+k we all get cracking on this 'tell me' by dj ng & baby katy

― r|t|c, Thursday, 17 January 2008 15:50 (eighteen years ago)
'cure & the cause' again, certainly, but ahh so TAUT
the way it builds and builds to mankind's doom behind baby katy's curled-lip passive-aggressiveness ("it's kind of obvious, it's kind of obvious" - slowburrrrn) is a bit like the shadow growing larger than its nosferatu
― r|t|c, Thursday, 17 January 2008 15:59 (eighteen years ago)
I am gonna have a go at not-marooning those posts, honest, it's just everything on that thread is kinda marooned at present... The Addictive & T2 one is bloody amazing, proper never-heard-anything-like-this-in-ever stuff.
(Your support for Yves La Rock, however, bemuses me.)
― William Bloody Swygart, Thursday, 17 January 2008 23:06 (eighteen years ago)
hah i never said yves la rock wasnt rubbish! but it is important that it exists right now, seeping steel drums and soca into the minds of the youth.
― r|t|c, Thursday, 17 January 2008 23:24 (eighteen years ago)
dj ng helpfully breaking it all down on his myspaz (listen to his tunes, tres interesting):
WHAT IS THE 'CAKE CONCEPT'? This ideology can be analogised with a concept of URBANCE, known as 'THE CAKE CONCEPT' easily explained & represented with NG’s analogy of baking a ‘musical cake’ which breaks down as follows…
Some people may like egg boiled, while some may not like it scrambled? Some might like egg soft-boiled but not hard-boiled, whilst some may dislike the ‘taste’ of egg altogether! However by mixing and baking a rich, delicious recipe for a cake, then packaging and presenting it appropriately (to those that didn’t like and wouldn’t consume it), NG believes that he can make individuals eat his ‘cake’ despite including ‘egg’ as a main ingredient for the cakes recipe. He believes this attitude may be reflected with music alike.

beautiful girl too, let's not make any weight jokes...
just listening to the latest stuff on X5 Dubs myspace (they really should've imposed img width limits here - pages are so fucked up) inc a calypso-ish 'what can i do' and an edit of alicia keys 'no one' tho nothing really standing out

T2/Addictive tune for anyone who's not heard it: http://www.zshare.net/audio/70126153623aee/
― jabba hands, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 06:57 (eighteen years ago)
So, why are these tunes so short? Is it because everyone uses laptops to DJ so can re-edit on the fly?
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
cos everyone is getting them off smugpolice?
― gff, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)
someone recommend me a killer bassline mix to buy/download plz.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Saturday, 16 February 2008 16:27 (eighteen years ago)
apparently craig david is doing a bassline track with t2. which would probably be good i reckon, but a bit of a pisstake after all these years of craig going on about how hes more than 'just garage' etc.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Sunday, 30 March 2008 21:49 (seventeen years ago)
This ain't exactly rolling is it.
Paleface is doing Rinse 05 - is that the first official comp then? I really want this to be amazing. Here's the tracklisting - 40 tracks! Though that kinda works with bassline.

there have been loads of bassline comps doing the rounds (and the rinse one looks great!) - the ministry of sound one and the came one have some stellar moments but my favourite is dj apostle presents the elements of bassline, handily divided into mc mix/vocal mix/dub mix
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:12 (seventeen years ago)
That MoS bassline one is really good.
― Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)
Woah that DJ Apostle one looks fabulous. I like how T2 has this new trick of big, ostentatiously fluffy vocal sections and then the big drop.
And I see that my predictions w/r/t schaffely interludes taking over proved to be correct.
:-( I should have known that the zero absence of a profile for bassline over here didn't count for much - I'd never heard of a Ministry of Sound comp before now.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:32 (seventeen years ago)
bassline hasn't really taken over the charts like i thought it would here tbh...'heartbroken' and 'what's it gonna be?' were huge of course but 'gonna be mine' flopped, 'my destiny' and 'daddy-o' didn't do much either...hoping for big things from dj q & mc bonez' 'you wot?' though. t-dot is the bassline mc who really needs to become a star.
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:44 (seventeen years ago)
also, hoping that the rumour that mutya buena is planning a move into bassline is true
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)
i should really check whether any good bassline rmxes of r&b hitz are cropping up, the t2 rmx of 'bed' was so so great, plus dexplicit on 'like a boy' and 'ayo technology'
check check check: dexplicit rmx of kasia's 'over you'
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)
and the remixes of 'honey child' by bliss'n'script
oh yeah and the up norf dutty mix of garage jams' 'snowflake' is sick!
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)
There's a good bassline mix of American Boy that leaves out Kanye West and where Estelle's airy vocals sound really good floating over the music (whereas on the real version they sound underwhelming).
― Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah I like that remix of "American Boy", it's by TS7 who's a top-shelf producer.
"Gonna Be Mine" is excellent but it really had no business being in the charts. The vocal is great but very functional.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)
might have to actually put my hand in my pocket for that apostle mix cd, the clips sound great! especially the first vocal cd - i'm interested in how bassline seems to have been allotted the uncontested fiefdom of strident, vengeful diva tunes as funky house has risen. (ng's 'tell me' perhaps the sole exception.)
i'm really out of the loop otherwise but in case no one's heard it alex mills & wittyboi's 'beyond words' was a big 1xtra hit recently, and is superb:

finally picked up the paleface mix, and all i can say is MOAR PLEASE
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 19:12 (sixteen years ago)
so cheesy but i've been really into james walker's do you want it right now; uses lyrics from avh's "i want your soul" - was that original or lifted from some freestyle track?
supple's remix of just dance - kept too much of the original vocals in but the drop is greathttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OrqbHW25b0
