Had to go with Sir Kenneth, but really could have been almost any one.

It will be sad when this poll is tabulated and the order gets all jumbled, losing the magnificent comedic effect of ending the list with the phrase "on gong"

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:32 (eighteen years ago)

I wonder if the poster known as J. Arthur Rank is still around?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

"rhythm pole"

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 01:44 (eighteen years ago)

"That's NICE Max!"

I still love "Count Basie Orchestra on triangle. (Thank you!)"

Alice's pick: John Wayne on Xylaphone.

Oh, and that really was Eric Clapton on Uke.

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

The gorilla line was going to be "Quentin Hogg on pig noises" but he threatened to sue so they replaced it. Which is just as well, as it would have been the only line that was rubbish, and now redundant (who he) anyway.

Mark G, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 12:06 (eighteen years ago)

it's all great but i'll be honest the hitler line was hysterical when i first heard it and it kind of turns you on to listening to the rest of the refs clearly.

I love the incongruity of Princess Anne playing the sousaphone.

Has to be Val Doonican as himself: "HELLO DERE!"

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I've ever loved a song as much as this one. And yeah, gotta be a vote for Big Val.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

I never understood who that was. I thought it was somebody called "Balhooligan."

(Nice!)

Geordie joke:

Q: Why does Val Doonican sit in a rocking chair?
A: Because if he stood up he'd only Val Doonican

(I voted for J. Arthur Rank, as it's the one that I find cropping up randomly in conversation most often.)

emil.y, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

Count Basie ("Ting!") for me. But Roy Rogers and Trigger nearly take it - so random and bizarre. (Is that a piss solo?)
