i do like some dance music after 2002 honest

blueski, Thursday, 24 January 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

I actually bought this at the weekend, as a birthday present for someone with a dilettante's interest in dance music. I either liked or loved everything here at the time but as a compilation I'd imagine this is exhausting.

(My top pick would probably be either Ihre Persönliche Glücksmelodie or Perspex Sex but its sort of overwhelming).

Ihre Persönliche Glücksmelodie

finally 'got' this the other day

blueski, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

I have a dillettant's interest in dance music, and I know about 25% of these songs and really like them. Laffs are encouraged or whatever, but would it be worth my while to get this and hear the other 75%?

Vitalic - My Friend Dario

seems like this would be a perfect comp for someone who asked onself, "what does cool-kids house music sound like these days?" (these days meaning 00s in general)

Dominique, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

it sounds like 'chemical beats'? awesome.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

oh you

Dominique, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

seems weird that Stardust and Hatiras are featured

blueski, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Everything pre-2001 feels a bit incongruous here. Maybe there's merit to that electroclash-as-year-zero argument on the other thread after all.

Matt DC, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

but 'Spaced Invader' in particular is very oi oi ibiza (lol balearic)

blueski, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

I got this in work when it came out a while back, as such it basically served the function of quote-unquote "quality" dance music I can play in the office without people complaining. I don't get the impression that people like me who didn't go to Bugged Out should be able to find some obvious common thread between all these tracks

DJ Mencap, Thursday, 24 January 2008 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Voted for I-F, dude's a genius.

Bodrick III, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 00:10 (eighteen years ago)

SPACED INVADER

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 01:44 (eighteen years ago)

the first time I heard that song was in a Bermuda cocktail lounge where they showed the video for every track on all the flatscreens. I then spent the rest of my vacation reminding myself "Hatiras - Spaced Invader... Hatiras - Spaced Invader..." so I would remember to track down a copy once I got home

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

bah. had i seen this poll in time, it'd have been digitalism all the way. but i didn't, so meh.

fuckin' awesome collection, though. as a theoretical clubber at best (ie the idea of it almost always appeals much, much more than the sweaty, expensive, difficult-to-score reality) it's right up my street ;)

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 31 January 2008 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

Haha hardly emphatic!
