That one guy that hit it and quit it, Friday, 25 January 2008 12:07 (eighteen years ago)

It's a game of two tracks Brian. I'll go for WCYDFM since it puts Annie Lennox to some use for once in her life.

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 25 January 2008 12:09 (eighteen years ago)

Apparently "Ohio" is widely believed to be their worst single. I really liked it (miles better than "Believe In Me"). Of course, duh, it's not "Something Good", so it's not going to get any votes.

edwardo, Friday, 25 January 2008 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

Oooooh I just know that "Something Good" is gonna happen!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 25 January 2008 12:19 (eighteen years ago)

Ohio is miles better than I Still Tink Of You and their last 3 singles bar the new remix (not heard)

blueski, Friday, 25 January 2008 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

Love Song = quite Underworldy, convinced it samples AWB's 'Pick Up The Pieces' intro

blueski, Friday, 25 January 2008 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, I was just listening to the first album yesterday. A more true power-pop album than all the bad Beatles knockoffs ever committed to vinyl or the equivalent.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 January 2008 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

I hope none of the fans of early Simple Minds aren't offended by my fierce admiration for U-Saints' "New Gold Dream" re-interpretation.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 25 January 2008 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

Hardly!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 25 January 2008 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

oooooooooo-i just know that "Something Good" is gonna crush

It IS a game of two tracks, but seriously I will fight you over the Lennox crack. Annie solo's a bore but the Eurythmics own. Hmm... there's no Eurythmics poll yet, is there?

rogermexico., Friday, 25 January 2008 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

lol I did a "the Eurythmics" - forty lashes for me

rogermexico., Friday, 25 January 2008 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

It's a game of two tracks Brian. I'll go for WCYDFM Something Good since it puts Annie Lennox Kate Bush to some use for once in her life.

^^^ BAN

Yeah "Sump'n Good" is the answer tho.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 25 January 2008 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

Utah Saints' debut is one of the best dance albums of the early nineties, and unjustly forgotten in my opinion. There isn't a single bad song on it, and tunes like "New Gold Dream" or "Too Much to Swallow" or "My Mind Must Be Free" are just as good as the singles.

Tuomas, Saturday, 26 January 2008 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

oh man I love "My Mind Must Be Free"

Matos W.K., Saturday, 26 January 2008 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the sampled vocals and strings on that tune are sublime.

Tuomas, Saturday, 26 January 2008 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

I wonder where all the samples on that LP came from, most of them aren't listed on the sleeve? Besides the more obvious ones, I think "I Love You" samples Slayer!

Tuomas, Saturday, 26 January 2008 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

Their second album was shite, wasn't it?

Bodrick III, Saturday, 26 January 2008 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

I used to play the U-Saints and Moby's first albums in a near constant loop in late '92-early '93. Good times.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 26 January 2008 18:59 (eighteen years ago)

I think "I Love You" samples Slayer!

Sure does -- "War Ensemble." It's in the credits.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 26 January 2008 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

There isn't a single bad song on it

I used to think that. But "States of Mind" has not survived the ravages of age unless its destiny was always Animal Planet theme music. And the brilliantly titled "Too Much to Swallow Pt. 1" is only there to insure that this very rockin' album doesn't come off as some sort of rockist whole. But "My Mind Must Be Free" does the memory of St. Sylvester proud - easily their finest moment. For this poll, though, I went with the brilliantly titled "Something Good." Still, a great album.

I remember next to nothing about the other singles.

So, outside of Something Good and What Can You Do For Me, is anything by them really worth listening to, cause I love the two aforementioned songs, so much so that haven't even bothered with anything else.

mehlt, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

buy the first album! "My Mind Must Be Free," "New Gold Dream," and "Too Much To Swallow" are all great.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...
