TS: Can vs. Scorpions

a)"In Trance" is the same song as "Mary Mary So Contrary", except without Malcolm Mooney's attempts at singing

b)'Tokyo Tapes' is an absolute must, mid-70s Purple copyism except mit der THICKEST German accent ever recorded, including Rammstein and the hotel guests on Fawlty Towers. It's not there on the studio records but live, wow. "He-e-e-eezza voman. She-e-e-eez a mahhhn" (What is it with Germans and trannies? See Accept's "Love Child", then think of the Heavy Metal Parking Lot Choir singing "Feeling the power of lust as the guy's passing by-y-y-y-y!") However the true marvel is the guitar playing of one Uli Roth. Michael Karoli needed to study astrological charts to break out of his teutonicism while Roth understands that the way out is through. The solo in "We'll Burn the Sky" is a concise history-in-microcosm of a certain lineage of gtr shred [Hendrix > Blackmore > Schenker] then goes beyond, to where the George Lynches of the world are still trying to get to. (The following track, the none-more-Weimarishly-titled "Suspender Love", is the opposite, with a Knack-like power pop riff contrasted with a gtr solo beginning with diminished scales etc that turns into a Robin Trower-esque thing by the end - reverse chron order). The only drawback is the lack of the high Eurovision harmony vox on the studio recordings (not to mention a live version of "Virgin Killer" instead of the ridiculous "Backstage Queen"), but that's made up for by the aforementioned uncut Deutsch bratwurst of a delivery

Also, German drummers always rule for some mysterious reason, Klaus Dinger no less than Jaki Liebezeit

How about Neu! vs. Scorpions? They were briefly on the same label in the States, after all.

Off the top of my head, I can't recall a Can song (except for "Mother Sky", which really ain't my thing right now). HOWEVER, the chorus (and video) for "Squeeze Me, Please Me" is lodged in my head, so YEAH! WOO!! WINDS OF CHANGE MOTHERFUCKER! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWK!

However, have the Scorpions inspired something so loopy and goofy and infinitely great as "I Am Damo Suzuki". YEAH! WOO! VITAMIN C!

best ever german drummer =

erk I am neither german nor drummer. Try again:

best ever german drummer = eroc from grobschnitt. I thought the scorpions were a bit terrible, though uli jon roth was a charming mentalist, and I thought his guitar was very nice.
