Not qualified to vote, but I'm still going to: "Miss You Much," which was number one on the charts when i was born

Kan i vote 4 WALLET CHAIN?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Confounded, Sunday, 27 January 2008 05:38 (eighteen years ago)

i'm voting for "hands on fake boobeez"

gershy, Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:00 (eighteen years ago)

janet. had how many singles?!

Eric H., Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

ten!

gr8080, Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:22 (eighteen years ago)

Rhythm Nation had eight

gr8080, Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:23 (eighteen years ago)

"Start Anew"! It's the real jewel in her crown, though you have to hear it at least twice before you really get how great it is. I can't get over it and yet I still love the Rhythm Nation/Control singles, too. And a couple songs from earlier in her career. But "Start Anew" is it. In fact, this thread is a fabulous excuse to play that song again, right now!

Bimble, Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:47 (eighteen years ago)

Damnit I love ILM and Janet Jackson singles polls! You guys rock!

Bimble, Sunday, 27 January 2008 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

:)

gr8080, Sunday, 27 January 2008 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

pleasure principle. also best video ever.

horseshoe, Sunday, 27 January 2008 07:16 (eighteen years ago)

so underrated: "I Want You"

The Reverend, Sunday, 27 January 2008 07:35 (eighteen years ago)

lol she did a song with khia?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 27 January 2008 08:23 (eighteen years ago)

I thought we did one of these already. But "Throb" definitely.

Kevin John Bozelka, Sunday, 27 January 2008 08:27 (eighteen years ago)

Got Til It's Gone

I agree with Rev tho, "I Want You" is gorgeous - one of her best.

The Brainwasher, Sunday, 27 January 2008 08:41 (eighteen years ago)

"Love Will Never Do". Easy. Lots of great singles, but that one is transcendent.

edwardo, Sunday, 27 January 2008 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

lol she did a song with khia?

Yeah. It sampled "Rockit", but isn't nearly as good as "song with 'Rockit' samples and Khia" sounds.

The Reverend, Sunday, 27 January 2008 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

Let's Wait Awhile. Several of those dance numbers are good too, but that one is sort of the ultimate Jam & Lewis ballad while I feel they did better faster stuff with SOS Band and Alexander O'Neal.

Wondering if any of the first nine will get any votes at all :)

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 27 January 2008 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

Wondering if any of the last nine will get any votes at all :)

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

There is a significant lack of Surmounter on this thread. And idk what to vote on!

Ivan, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

Is it contrarian to vote "Got 'til It's Gone"? Also I could've sworn "Velvet Rope" was a single in the UK.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

one of these:
What Have You Done for Me Lately
Escapade
If

All I know is it would be a damn shame if "I Want You" or "All Nite (Dan to Thread) didn't.

The Reverend, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see her Herb Alpert collab "Diamonds," which would be in my top ten. Voted for "Escapade."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

Those songs are good, Reverend, but I wouldn't say they deserve any votes over at least a dozen songs from her peak period (that said, I'm voting for a relatively recent track, "Doesn't Really Matter").

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see her Herb Alpert collab "Diamonds,"

i left off janet "appearances"

gr8080, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

I think "Scream" counts as an "appearance" (although I have no problem with that being on the poll but not the Herb Alpert one).

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

i'll be the only rep for 'again'

remy bean, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

I went with "Miss You Much", but listening to The Velvet Rope I gotta say that if "Velvet Rope" had been a single then maybe I would be regretting my choice.

Euler, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

"The Best Things In Life Are Free" is also an appearance.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 10 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

What Have You Done for Me Lately

lou, Sunday, 10 February 2008 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

LOVE WILL NEVER DO

Surmounter, Sunday, 10 February 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 11 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Nice spread. A sign of an act who has been consistent for some time.

But "Nasty" would have deserved zero. It's terrible.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 11 February 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Lame. Why don't people vote in the polls that matter?

Eric H., Monday, 11 February 2008 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

I did not see this poll. I'm a strict "on the clock" ilxor, what can I say. I think I would have voted for "alright." But "again" is pretty sweet.

Trip Maker, Monday, 11 February 2008 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

"got 'til it's gone"? really?

impudent harlot, Monday, 11 February 2008 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

not that i voted so...

would've gone w/ "love will never do" or "if" probably

impudent harlot, Monday, 11 February 2008 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

40+ votes is a pretty good turnout for the average ILM poll, just less consensus than usual here. i still REALLY do not understand these results, though.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 11 February 2008 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

I'm happy with "Got Til It's Gone"'s showing. I wouldn't have expected it to do so well.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

I couldn't make up my mind because I like so many of her songs? If I voted (can't remember) it probably was for "What have you done for me lately" though. But very close--> If, Alright, Control, Rhythm Nation, Pleasure Principle.. probably a couple others..

absolutely in love w/ this 12-inch remix of "nasty" (w/ little bits of "what have you done for me lately" interspersed thruout for good measure)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TOQC0XvS4c

stumbled across it online earlier this year and was very pleasantly surprised to hear one of the local radio stations incorporating it into a daytime weekend mixshow a few months later :)

supposedly herb alpert plays on the 'part 2' flipside

dyl, Tuesday, 30 April 2019 03:55 (six years ago)

"When I Think of You" is kind of a perfect single, I like it as much as anything by her brother. surprised it only got one vote

frogbs, Tuesday, 30 April 2019 13:58 (six years ago)

The number of times I've clicked on a poll about songs/artists I like, you'd think by now I'd know it's because Alfred posted a HTV link.

Also, how "If" only got 2 votes is a mystery.

Oh sorry, a shame. I meant a shame.

oh god that cool summer mix of "diamonds" is awesome

was motivated to get back to it after hearing alpert's e x q u i s i t e trumpet solo in "someday is tonight" (not a single so perhaps not worth mentioning itt but oh well!)

not a single bit of love for “All For You”?

Swag Heathen (theStalePrince), Thursday, 11 June 2020 18:17 (five years ago)

I know we've done a Jackson family ballot poll, but I'd seriously love to see one for Janet herself.

Dirty Epic H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 11 June 2020 18:22 (five years ago)

"empty" #1

ufo, Thursday, 11 June 2020 18:24 (five years ago)

one year passes...

Someone used "If" as a burlesque number and it worked surprisingly well.

That's my vote as well
