S/D: Pounding Grooves

A friend of mine bequeathed me a rather large collection of old techno, house, tribal and hip-hop today. Quite a number of them are Pounding Grooves records.

I think this shit is fucking dope. 26 is really destroying me right now.

Underground London free-party crusty acid-techno, yeah?

I'm too much of a milksop for that shit.

the naming conventions in this scene are sort of interesting. lots of acronyms (m.i.k.e., d.a.v.e. the drummer, etc) and lots of "___ & ___" (dj misjah & dj tim, etc)

it's actually very similar in its own way to naming conventions in happy hardcore.

true.

i've been working on a mix of a lot of the stuff he gave me. renato cohen, pounding grooves, marco bailey, valkan, la factoria posse.

that said, i think this stuff is really sick (if a bit harder than what i usually dig).

will post the mix on the mix thread soon.

I think of Pounding Grooves as sort of a bridge between Underground London free-party crusty acid-techno and eg Ben Sims or Surgeon maybe? I don't have any of their stuff tho, to the best of my recollection

it has a bit of surgeon in it, but with more love for congas. i believe i have Pounding Grooves 18-26 in my collection right now, with 24 and 25 being my particular favorites.
