lol kerr

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

:)
I couldn't add a Motherwell option because of all the Delgados love round here hehe. Even if their studio where they recorded everything is at Peacock Cross in Hamilton.
Bellshill needs it's own poll but I'll leave that for dingbod

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

I suspect Mogwai won't win this, assuming more than the two of us vote.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

Well they got mine but I think you probably voted for The Almighty :)

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

Nah I voted mogwai. Almighty were a bit lumpen for me.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

Geir might have the deciding vote, it all depends if he knows of The Gyres, Noel Gallagher was a fan. They were shite.

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

Noel Gallagher was a fan. They were shite

Tautological

A best of Lanarkshire could be a half decent poll actually. JAMC might run away with it though since there's not much Primal Scream love on ilm.

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

read the comments on the 1st youtube link, that's the type who were into britpop in Hamilton

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

I've been trolling the Scouting for Kids videos, I know what radge lumpenindies read like.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

You've never met lanarkshire ones though

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

The first time I saw that Gyres thing was one of the funniest moments of my life.

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

They even have the cheek to say they're from Hamilton.

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

I like that the drummer is a Buddy Rich man. You can really hear that in his playing!

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

hahahaha
we do like to talk a lot of shite about music here

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

This is where the thread turns into a rolling comedy Bobby Gillespie impersonation.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 27 January 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

You can start...

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

I had actually forgotten how bad The Gyres were until I watched that youtube stuff. I remember they played T In The Park when it was in Hamilton, didn't watch them though. Did see the delgados when they only had a couple of singles out.

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

I never heard of Strathaven (and I thought Hamilton was, like, in Ohio or somewhere), but I voted for the Almighty (who could be pretty great) regardless.

xhuxk, Sunday, 27 January 2008 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

It may come as a shock to you, but many place names in America come from place names in Britain!

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

And sometimes more than one place can have the same name!

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

One of my mates visited Hamilton in Canada some years ago. He reckons someone emigrated from Larkhall as there was a King William Street.

There's a link to an interview with Emma from the delgados on that page

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

More a Stonehouse man myself.

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

One of Sons and Daughters is from Bothwell iirc.

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

Dunno that band. Any stonehoose bands?

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

Probably not.

Sons and daughters are on Domino, were hyped in the wake of Franz. Don't think anyone really cares about them, third album coming out soon and they were the culture show a week or two ago playing a song. Not very memorable.

jim, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

They have a good song that's basically a Smiths cover with the lyrics changed so it's about S&M, other than that probably best avoided.

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 27 January 2008 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

I'll take your word for it.

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 27 January 2008 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

ok they're crap.

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'm from Hamilton, Ontario. I got a copy of Big Black's Hammer Party for a dollar at a public library sale, so that's probably my personal local music best. Daniel Lanois is also from Hamilton, and a couple of the All Saints bizarrely.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Monday, 28 January 2008 06:03 (eighteen years ago)

That's who I thought this thread was about. Sigh.

Kevin John Bozelka, Monday, 28 January 2008 06:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, same here.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Monday, 28 January 2008 06:26 (eighteen years ago)

Nah this is the ORIGINAL Hamilton :)

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 28 January 2008 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

Any ilxors from Hamilton, NZ?

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

Me & the gang is a bitching joint.

jim, Monday, 28 January 2008 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

I had hoped dingbod would've done a Bellshill poll

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

Several Bellshill acts already in Glasgow poll

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

JAMC might run away with it though since there's not much Primal Scream love on ilm.

Roberto Gillespie's from Glasgow

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:12 (eighteen years ago)

(also I am including Lanarkshire, Clyde Valley, Paisley etc. to count as "Glasgow").

Apologies if this minor point was not in a sufficiently prominent position on the other thread.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

I wouldn't try a Mossend poll, mind you. As for Motherwell; Neil Reid, and then what?

... errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

Motherwell would be delgados vs river detectives

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

Craigneuk's last stand?

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

featuring Errol Flynn

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 1 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

haha who voted for the gyres?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 1 February 2008 00:15 (eighteen years ago)

Geir?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 1 February 2008 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

it's pretty funny that 19 people felt they had to rep for Mogwai in this nail-biter.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 1 February 2008 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

Every time I opened the thread to read a new comment I just clicked them out of habit.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

Sons and daughters are on Domino, were hyped in the wake of Franz. Don't think anyone really cares about them

Sons and Daughters

stirmonster, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

Wayne was a real bastard in Sons And Daughters ;)
