Tindersticks

zeus, Monday, 28 January 2008 12:33 (eighteen years ago)

Ah yes, celebrated South Yorkshire resident Robin Hood, with the airport that's just outside of Doncaster...

mike t-diva, Monday, 28 January 2008 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

That anti-hooliganism rap track Brian Clough did.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 28 January 2008 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

Corrine Drewery is from Market Rasen, near Lincoln!

Dr.C, Monday, 28 January 2008 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

xpost: ...it was Brian Clough featuring JJ "No Charge" Barrie, no less. And who could forget Justin Fashanu's "Do It Cos You Like It"?

Where are Stereo MCs band?

Dingbod Kesterson, Monday, 28 January 2008 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

We're claiming Corinne as one of our own, thank you.

Stereo MCs? Bloody splitters! Only two of them were from Nottingham, and the band didn't form until they were both living in London. But, um, yes, whoops, bollocks, missed them...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Fudgetunnel or Tindersticks

Gut Rot V My Sister

Depends what mood I'm in I suppose.

Quite like the MBVish soundscapes of Amusement Parks on Fire but got to be one of the above for sheer originality.

FUDGETUNNEL! (tip it with the title 'Hate Songs in E Minor')

Fer Ark, Thursday, 31 January 2008 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

Bent were great too.
'Swollen' and 'Private road (?) _ i need to hear those right now

Fer Ark, Thursday, 31 January 2008 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

Fat Tulips were tempting but the Tindersticks were like REALLY good.

what, no MC C-Mone?

Saxby D. Elder, Thursday, 31 January 2008 01:24 (eighteen years ago)

Split decision between Fudge Tunnel and Lawnmower Deth

John Justen, Thursday, 31 January 2008 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

tindersticks or earache records! ha

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 31 January 2008 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

Most of those artists are dreadful. Went for Krush.

Poor Bruce Dickinson coming from Worksop. It is the most horrible English town I have ever visited.

Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Bruce Dickinson is listed in the Best of Sheffield poll, that lad certainly gets around.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

Plummet Airlines

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

Where are Pinski Zoo?

Tom D., Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

YES!!!!!!

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

I am sure it is poor form to wander into these threads and demand corny indiefuxtrumentalists with a handful of 7"s to their name, but I weep at the total absence of Gringo Records from your poll

...so I guess it is Tindersticks, Fudge Tunnel or Six By Seven, having been kind of tempted by Lawnmower Deth without ever having heard their music (I really should do, I've been fascinated by the name since a friend's metalhead brother had it scrawled on his bedroom wall when we were 9 and he was, oh, 14? which seemed impossibly grownup and sophisticated then, he had pictures of cars and vague drug-slogan posters on the walls and dirty playing cards and everything. but anyway).

Tindersticks, eh? More bloody splitters. Pinski Zoo and Plummet Airlines were indeed shocking omissions. Medium Medium, Charles Webster, State of Grace, Pitman and Bent all deserved better.
