I would have a hard time choosing, seriously. Maybe the first one, cuz it's the first one I picked up and have listened to it the most. Basinski rules.

I went with II, but would have went with an "all of them" option if it was available.

Can I choose the DVD?

I've only heard the 1st one, but I liked Melancholia a lot more.

How are the later DL albums compared to the first?

I played II's Loops on loop during the grueling nine hours MWF it took to write my comps. Exactly the kind of grounding I needed. So II it is. And thank you Bill!

I voted for 3 thinking it was 1. While I'm getting all honest and stuff I should say I don't think I've really heard the others, and if I do, I don't remember them too well. I was just voting on the assumption that DL 1 is one of the most sublimely beautiful works of music I've heard.

I own and very much like I. I've never heard the others, so I didn't vote, but I will be watching for the poll results.

Based on a somewhat cursory relisten, III has the most involving melodies, and III part 1 aka D|P 4 has the best disintegration (but that probably means it's the worst bet for immersive background music).

yea, especially on eMusic -- you won't have to use up a lot of downloads b/c most of them have no more than 2 tracks (IV being the exception, w/ 3 tracks) but all of them have 70 minutes of music on them.

I was just coming here to say exactly that and JBL beat me by 7 years. The way it goes from a nice little ambient loop to the cold fingers of death around my throat in 20 minutes is amazing.
