ALL OF THEM.

ian, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

What he said.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

I would have a hard time choosing, seriously. Maybe the first one, cuz it's the first one I picked up and have listened to it the most. Basinski rules.

ian, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

I went with II, but would have went with an "all of them" option if it was available.

Z S, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:22 (eighteen years ago)

Can I choose the DVD?

s. morris, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:25 (eighteen years ago)

i like III the best

sleep, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

I've only heard the 1st one, but I liked Melancholia a lot more.

How are the later DL albums compared to the first?

Display Name, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

i really should have stopped eating for a few days instead of selling these....

i'd have to go with 1 or 4... 4 it is..

winston, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:33 (eighteen years ago)

I played II's Loops on loop during the grueling nine hours MWF it took to write my comps. Exactly the kind of grounding I needed. So II it is. And thank you Bill!

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for 3 thinking it was 1. While I'm getting all honest and stuff I should say I don't think I've really heard the others, and if I do, I don't remember them too well. I was just voting on the assumption that DL 1 is one of the most sublimely beautiful works of music I've heard.

mehlt, Thursday, 31 January 2008 04:15 (eighteen years ago)

I own and very much like I. I've never heard the others, so I didn't vote, but I will be watching for the poll results.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 4 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Based on a somewhat cursory relisten, III has the most involving melodies, and III part 1 aka D|P 4 has the best disintegration (but that probably means it's the worst bet for immersive background music).

ledge, Monday, 4 February 2008 00:14 (eighteen years ago)

How about a complete William Basinski discography poll?

krakow, Monday, 4 February 2008 07:47 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

These just appeared on eMusic today (Vol. I -- IV). So . . . worth getting them all?

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 10 March 2008 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Yup.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 10 March 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

yea, especially on eMusic -- you won't have to use up a lot of downloads b/c most of them have no more than 2 tracks (IV being the exception, w/ 3 tracks) but all of them have 70 minutes of music on them.

Mark Clemente, Monday, 10 March 2008 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

(i'm assuming eMusic still operates on # of downloads you can use each month. i haven't used eMusic in a while)

Correct.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 10 March 2008 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

BTW, has anyone seen this DVD, using Basinski's work, and if so, is it worth getting?

It sounds horrible and compelling at the same time.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 10 March 2008 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

KJB, this is the greatest thing you've ever turned me on to.

Mordy, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 12:43 (sixteen years ago)

Don't think so. He had copies when I saw him live earlier in the year.

jesus and mary chapin carpenter (donna rouge), Friday, 15 July 2011 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

they should supply the audience with blowguns and tranquilizer darts, and the musicians should be picked off one by one as the suite progresses

I was just coming here to say exactly that and JBL beat me by 7 years. The way it goes from a nice little ambient loop to the cold fingers of death around my throat in 20 minutes is amazing.
