It'd be very typical of ILM to vote for somebody else than The Beatles, but not me, I'm not doing that.....

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:42 (eighteen years ago)

The Teardrop Explodes
Wah!
The La's
Shack
Billy J. Kramer
The Zutons
The Coral
Space

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

lol at importance of Atomic Kitten

(also KLF? wtf sort of weird definition of "Merseyside acts" are you using here?)

ailsa, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

I wanted to vote Shack :(

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

The Farm
China Crisis
The Christians
Icicle Works
Pale Fountains

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

The Scaffold
Ladytron
Deaf School
Swinging Blue Jeans

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

I did search for Billy J. Kramer and he was defined by Allmusic as from elsewhere. Probably goes for most of the others too - most likely from various suburbs just outside of Liverpool.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:00 (eighteen years ago)

KLF=Bill Drummond

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

Guess I could have used RYM instead, but then the poll would have been very large: http://rateyourmusic.com/location/Liverpool/England/United%20Kingdom/_/artists/

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:04 (eighteen years ago)

Bill Drummond isn't from Liverpool, or even a suburb just outside it.

ailsa, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:16 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, it's a bit like including blur in a best of iceland poll or something.

ailsa, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:22 (eighteen years ago)

Spice Girls

our work is never over, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:27 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, if you're including people from merseyside rather than liverpool itself, then I vote for Half Man Half Biscuit. Except I can't because they aren't there. Yet somehow Elvis Costello is.

ailsa, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

No Ricky Tomlinson?

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 07:53 (eighteen years ago)

poll, my, arse

Frogman Henry, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 08:31 (eighteen years ago)

Why is Costello in this, exactly? He was born in Twickenham (his dad still lives here), and went to school in Isleworth. He worked at the Elizabeth Arden factory in Acton after leaving school. The Liverpool connection is that he lived up there with his mother for a few years in his mid-teens, is it?

Dr.C, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 08:53 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, where's Frankie Vaughan?

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 08:59 (eighteen years ago)

Elvis Costello is defined as from Liverpool by both AMG and RYM.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

And himself, I believe.

Still, some shocking omissions, The La's is a big miss. In fact all of MikeTDiv's first post OTM.

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

Scrap this poll, too many omissions

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

I vote that too. Too many significant omissions.

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

Mind you the Manchester one was just as bad

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

No, this is the worst poll ever.

King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

Worse than the 1992 General Election?

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

Can the last one to play There She Goes turn the lights off?

King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:10 (eighteen years ago)

The Manchester one lacked the best band (10cc), this one has the best band (Beatles). So the Manchester one was worse. AMG needs to do something about their geography feature though.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

AMG has defined the LA's as from Liverpool, but without putting them in the "bands from Liverpool" category.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

probably put them in the Los Angeles category!

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

lololololol julian lennon

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

Where are CARCASS?

chap, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

went with Echo, though OMD were tempting

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 5 February 2008 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

One happy geir?

Mark G, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 08:07 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I take those votes for Billy Fury and Ken Dodd as mock votes.

The Beatles are so obviously and undeniably not only the best of Liverpool but the best of the entire world. And that's a part of rock history, really.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

ha.
and there was me thinking i was going to be alone re @440.
come out come out whoever you are.

mark e, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

The real surprise is that Frankie got none. And I don't mean Mr Vaughan.
