Alright, here's a tough one. A million years ago (well, circa 1982/1983), I was friends with this dude named Brian. Brian worked at my local Crazy Eddie's (ancient record store chain) on 3rd Avenue. He and I became friends largely based on the purchases I was making at the time (Devo, the Dickies, the Circle Jerks, etc.). In any case, he was in a hardcore band (surprise) and his band (name long forgotten) had a track on a compilation LP of -- I believe -- only NYC bands. For no logical reason, I'm trying to track down that LP. Trouble is: Brian and I lost touch, I don't remember his band's name and I don't remember the name of the compilation.
I remember this: it had a skull on the cover.
Ring any bells?

Before anyone suggests it, no it was not the ROIR cassette, New York Thrash.

wouldn't have been the rotten to the core comp then. that didn't have a skull on the cover. it did have a ton of forgotten new york punk bands on it though. and would have been a good guess! if it weren't for the whole skull thing!

It's always the skull thing, though, isn't it? Fuckin' skulls....they fuck up everything.

If its the Empty Skulls comp it can be downloaded here:

The only NYHC comps I can think of apart from New York Thrash are Where The Wild Things Are and Sunday Matinee both of which came way later than 82/83 and neither of which had a skull on the cover.
I'll tap up my friend Bruce, he played in Adrenalin OD back then and worked in a record store - he might know for sure.

From Bruce Wingate (AOD):
"an 80's HC comp with skulls on it"? that ought to be easy to nail down! The description of the guy sounds like it could be Brian Swirsky, though I don't know what (if any) bands he was in. Could the comp be BIG CITY (ONE BIG CROWD)? cheers, Bruce
Hope this helps.
