You forgot to include all their best phrases!

"Fine deep chordish minimal tool"
"Excellent long tripping tech-house tracks"
"Innovative and reduced techno. Party guaranteed"
"Most finest raw acid and deep house vibes"

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:28 (eighteen years ago)

you forgot "ETERNAL TECHNO CLASSIC"

elan, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:51 (eighteen years ago)

TIP!

quite obviously.

pipecock, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

i went for the obvious ones because if you put all the good record-specific ones there'd be about 400 options on the poll! leaving off "ETERNAL TECHNO CLASSIC" was a bit of a mistake though, oops.

all-time fave, for one of the smith n hack records: "Hardcore-cut-up disco funk for excessive club play - party guarnteed, TIP!!!"

haitch, Thursday, 31 January 2008 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

"TIP!"
always sounds strangely euro.

also, "once you are inside the groove," describing a soundhack record (i think).

ILX polls are getting less and less comprehensible.

"ILX polls are getting less and less comprehensible.

mildly surprised at the lack of love for 'A MUST!', gotta say.

haitch, Monday, 4 February 2008 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

re: "TIP!"

does anyone actually say this? does it just mean, "recommended"?

and lol @ "Most finest raw acid"

"re: "TIP!"

-- one time"

i say it. its kind of a joke amongst people i know who shop on hardwax's site to say that about a great record.

"chorousful uplifted darkmellow ambient circuits"???

haitch, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

i think that they have too much time on their hands now that rhythm & sound is over

elan, Monday, 7 April 2008 04:11 (seventeen years ago)

Ha! When Soultek worked here he would always end descripts of stuff he wanted to push with "TIP!". I shoulda known that's where he got that from.

Is this a real quote "chorousful uplifted darkmellow ambient circuits"?? That's too funny.

I get a kick out of their "minimal" listings -- you can totally track how they've moved away from minimal techno by comparing their "recommendations" in this category with their props for dubstep or classic techno. From http://hardwax.com/minimal/ as it's currently displaying:

Minimalist house
Minimalist tech house
Minimalist tech house
Minimalist tech house
Hypnotic atmospheric techno
Minimalist dubby tech house tracks
Minimalist tech house
Minimal tracks
Straight ahead minimal tracks
Killer Cortex-techno at its very best - Highly Recommended!

Hehe. I also enjoy their description of the latest Ricardo -- damning with faint praise?
Fine modern house

Speaking of recommendation, ‘TIP’ and ‘Highly Recommended’, are they the same things, or different?

In the beginning, it was very confusing to English speaking people – when they saw ‘TIP’, they were confused. It’s a German word for ‘that’s a recommendation.’ We use that most of the time. ‘Highly recommended’ is little bit higher, and absolute maximum is ‘Must Have’!

What about Shed’s comment about his album title ‘The Killer’….

(Laugh) I know where you’re going with this!

Well, is that true? That ‘killer’ is an internal Hard Wax word for a really good record?

It’s true! It is really true. When the record is extremely good, we say “It’s a killer!”

I can’t really recall a recent record with the ‘killer’ notation. For a fact, Hard Wax didn’t even use it for Shed’s ‘The Killer’ album.

It’s quite rare. I don’t remember where it was, but I know it exists.
