its 'a black american' according to eavis. which doesnt really help much. nme and all the press think this means it will be jay-z or kanye. cant really see thousands of indie kids screaming along to 'izzo' though.

i think it will be prince.

he's a Sunday afternooner not a headliner xp

Neil Diamond in blackface: what's on your iPod?

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

It won't be Jay-Z because the only Jay-Z song anyone in Britain knows is "Hard Knock Life".

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

I got 99 neil diamonds...

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

Of course its Kanye, it's Eavis's brazen attempt to appeal more to the youth market. Prince is hardly going to to that.

Matt DC, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

pharrell williams.

Okay I am stoked for some top-notch gothtard moaning about Jay-Z for the next 6 months.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

Meh, it's not like he'll attract any gays to Glastonbury, so at least The Zutons will be OK with it.

Dom Passantino, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

does he really think that many 'kids' (who usually goes to glasto anyway? 40 yr olds?) are gonna come just for jay-z?? cos unless theres some other 'youth' names there too, i cant see it happening.

gabbneb, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, wait. Jay-Z's playing the Sunday night, right? So is this just Eavis' subtle way of making sure all the Fratellis-loving fuckwits clear off in good time?

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

i hope he ends with 'is that yo bitch'.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

chris martin will be there.

titchyschneiderMk2, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

I might try and go this year. That's not actually connected to this announcement, although if it is Jay-Z I might watch him (I'm not really into Kanye). I'm the wrong side of 30 now so I'm in the target demographic.

‘meg.rah15’ described the news as “tragic”, while ‘beefster’ wrote, “What a load of shite”. ‘d73375’ added: "Michael Eavis has just ruined the image of Glastonbury in one swoop."

There was some support for the announcements, however, with ‘gingerdave2008’ writing that "Jay-Z is excellent."

J0rdan S., Sunday, 10 February 2008 01:44 (eighteen years ago)

Kings of Leon headlining is the new Skunk Anansie headlining - ie the real 'wtf how is this happening oh shit they're actually really big aren't they?' feeling.

Matt DC, Sunday, 10 February 2008 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

jay-z and the verve -- 90s revival is on and i am loving it.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 10 February 2008 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

well, Jay-Z never really went away. he's just become the new establishment.

Skunk Anansie were good.

Noodle Vague, Monday, 11 February 2008 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

That's three pretty ordinary headliners right there.

SeekAltRoute, Monday, 11 February 2008 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Registration closes tomorrow (Friday). Still yet to decide whether I'm gonna go but I've registered anyway, just my options open for the time being.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 13 March 2008 22:37 (seventeen years ago)

Registrations down. Jay-Z 'no Muse', says Eavis

Alba, Friday, 14 March 2008 09:40 (seventeen years ago)

Portishead to headline one of the other stages, I wonder?

Matt DC, Friday, 14 March 2008 09:50 (seventeen years ago)

"There's not as many as last year because we haven't got the super, big, big, big sort of headlining act anymore. We've gone for something middle range although Jay-Z is huge in America."

Noodle Vague, Friday, 14 March 2008 09:54 (seventeen years ago)

I think Massive Attack are meant to be playing too. Trip-hop = this year's fraggle revival?

Alba, Friday, 14 March 2008 09:59 (seventeen years ago)

Jay-Z isn't really that big over here though.

Matt DC, Friday, 14 March 2008 10:02 (seventeen years ago)

Amongst the sort of people who go to Glastonbury, maybe.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 14 March 2008 11:31 (seventeen years ago)

I mean yeah, on paper you're right but I just feel like this merits some kind of giant FFS.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 14 March 2008 11:33 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know if The Verve are really pulling people in either i mean who gives a fuck about them now except people the same age as them?

blueski, Friday, 14 March 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

Do you remember that NME issue where they got an indie kid, a raver and a ... something else to all go to each others' nights out and report back? The raver had to go to a (pre-The) Verve gig and was unimpressed.

Alba, Friday, 14 March 2008 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

Or buy CDs, or listen to the radio, or...

Dom Passantino, Friday, 14 March 2008 15:33 (seventeen years ago)

(Face it, dude's only known over here because he's fucking Beyonce. May as well have Adnan Ghalib headline a festival)

Dom Passantino, Friday, 14 March 2008 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

i think all of this is good. less demand = more chance of tickets for ppl who want to go for the festival itself (rather than just for the headliners), which makes for a much better atmosphere than a bunch of coldplay/radiohead/muse fans who only came to see their favourite band...

braveclub, Friday, 14 March 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

I am expecting Jay-Z to get St Winfred's School Choir on stage for a novelty Glastonbury Hard Knock Life/There's No One Quite Like Grandma medley.

Alba, Friday, 14 March 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

People who probably will come onstage with Jay-Z: Joss Stone, Pete Doherty, Frank Lampard

Dom Passantino, Friday, 14 March 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

2) Is it waterproof?

yet, you will. especially if you go to the cinema field to watch juno at 2am.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)

surely the point is to walk around outside your tent in it, occasionally falling over or being pushed over and people laughing at you. but is there no zip at the front for when you get up at 6am for a wee?

jay-z was anti climatic. doing wonderwall in FULL just made it look like a (shit) cover, not a pisstake. very disappointing.

titchyschneiderMk2, Sunday, 29 June 2008 07:46 (seventeen years ago)

weird thing about the performance was that hov didnt seem to really win the crowd over. and it didnt seem like he was even TRYING to really win them over. but then thats just how he is on stage. hes not really much of a performer. the oasis cover went wrong cos instead of takin the piss out of noel/indie he ended up payin tribute to it. *L* and was it me or did he not really do the best songs that he could have done? he should have done more harder stuff like ride with me, streets are watching or some other stuff like that, not excuse me miss! since when do indie crowds like r&b mush? and i still fucking hate that linkin park 'duet'. lol@that (and the sunday bloody sunday mashup) being the last song. how desperate.

titchyschneiderMk2, Sunday, 29 June 2008 07:55 (seventeen years ago)

sunday bloody sunday stepped slightly wrong, but otherwise insane - that set was hot, i guess maybe too hot for the 'climate'. if the crowd wasn't won over - and people seem pretty enthusiastic on the video - maybe they should go listen to Shakin Stevens.
