Wiley finally made the song he's been threatening to make for years:

dude's on fire after 'I'm Going Out' and now this
― blueski, Friday, 1 February 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)
Aye, this is much awesome. Is it not someone else ft. Wiley, tho?
― William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 1 February 2008 15:01 (seventeen years ago)
Supposed to be his next single. The sample sounds familiar though...?
― tpp, Friday, 1 February 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)
it's DSK's 'What Would We Do'
― blueski, Friday, 1 February 2008 15:25 (seventeen years ago)
OK, someone please explain to a clueless Canuck when grime folded back in on itself and became speed garage (again), because I was listening to the original DSK track just a few days ago...
― Tantrum The Cat, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)
This is great.
― forksclovetofu, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:44 (seventeen years ago)
the man dem just wanna bubble in a rave quite alot
― tpp, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:46 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, the "is it not featuring" query/vibe seems key to this one. pleasing irony in the fact that he feels more like a proper hungry rapper on this than say, the tunnel vision best-of 2cd; you're more than happy to trade all of the smart lines in that, cosy in their wileyness, for "usually DRINK usually DANCE usually BUBBLE." usually! i love how between this and 'i'm going out' grime's still staking out a surly little realist conscience whilst making its tentative steps back towards the dancefloor.
― r|t|c, Saturday, 2 February 2008 01:22 (seventeen years ago)
the dsk ref seems like a ruddy sort of herring to be reeling in when it's also sounding a lot more like mason 'exceeder' or something
― r|t|c, Saturday, 2 February 2008 01:25 (seventeen years ago)
(nb. i say 'grime' there but i'm hardly convinced these tracks are evidence of anything greater than target's caprices really, stick on any logan show and it's still same old same old)
― r|t|c, Saturday, 2 February 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)
this fucking track
― The Reverend, Sunday, 30 March 2008 14:02 (seventeen years ago)
I'm kind of amazed by how well this is tipped to do. Can it really be that everyone's been getting it wrong all this time and all that's needed for proper overground success is to forget grime and faux-Kanye hip-hop and just go 4/4 and danceable again?
― Matt DC, Sunday, 30 March 2008 14:49 (seventeen years ago)
The Rolex Dance
― tpp, Sunday, 30 March 2008 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

― Matt DC, Sunday, 30 March 2008 16:46 (seventeen years ago)
This song is shit.
― jim, Sunday, 30 March 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)
Well that was certainly an opinion which is challenging.
― Noodle Vague, Sunday, 30 March 2008 16:51 (seventeen years ago)
Rolex Sweep may be better than Wearing My Rolex but huge plus of Mentasm revive clouds judgement too easily.
Think I still prefer 'I'm Going Out' to both tho.
― blueski, Sunday, 30 March 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)
-- Tantrum The Cat, Friday, 1 February 2008
Doesn't really sound like speed garage though, it's like a slightly more swingy version of electro-house. I'm am suprised!
― Bodrick III, Sunday, 30 March 2008 19:11 (seventeen years ago)
if u wanna hear speed garage revival check out that new Wideboys single ft. Shaznay Lewis - closer to 'RIP Groove' than most of the current bassliney stuff
― blueski, Sunday, 30 March 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)
pure hairdresser grime
― tpp, Sunday, 30 March 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)
hold on, how is this the song hes been threatening to make for years? its a good track, although a few more lyrics would have been nice, and its better than most of wileys own songs somehow (hes never really made that many good songs has he?) but its not THAT good.

Is he going to a fancy dress party as a central London arts store employee from 2004?
― Dom Passantino, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)
Nah, I meant it literally. Wiley has been saying he's gonna put out a 'funky house' tune for ages.
― tpp, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)
This is better than any individual Wiley track bar Problems, What D'You Call It, I'm Going Out and Pies. For the casual listener, there's so little Wiley on this track that it might as well be a sample. It might as well be a house tune really, there's very little to identify it as grime at all.
That's probably it's appeal. I've got a theory that the British public will buy anything that gets enough airplay and has uplifting trancey synth chords like that. See also With Every Heartbeat. It's the dance music equivalent of sounding like Queen. MIA's mistake was not including a trancey tune on Kala.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)
what dyou call it and pies and problems all sucked imo (great beats though).
no qualms, fly boy and stars were all good though.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)
MIA's mistake was not including a trancey tune on Kala.
^^^if the bitch covers Special D on her next album, I may give a shit.
― Dom Passantino, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)
Does anyone remember that electrohouse track with MC Romeo "I See Girls". That's what this is really a better version of.
― Tim F, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

rolex sweep is ten times worse than wearing my rolex. skepta sounds like hes trying to rap sexily or something. sounds wrong. and the beat is a shit refix of the original too.

I don't get it...is Rolex Sweep a bootleg? Follow-up single? Random viral thingy?
― musically, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 01:25 (seventeen years ago)
Isn't it a totally different song/track/groove relying on the thematic link (via rolexes) to win relative fame - oh, plus crossover with funky audience?
― Tim F, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 05:53 (seventeen years ago)
Same producer (Skepta) too
― I am using your worlds, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 10:31 (seventeen years ago)
I can't tell whether or not Wiley is already a bit ashamed of the Rolex tracks, his album would certainly seem to suggest so. Obviously there is nothing on there anywhere near as good as Wearing My Rolex.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 10:38 (seventeen years ago)
He's not in the video, so maybe yes, but I'm sure the £££s are coming in handy
― I am using your worlds, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 10:43 (seventeen years ago)
possibly irked that he backed the wrong horse, tho it reminds me a bit of Born Slippy .Nuxx success coinciding with Second Toughest In The Infants too. according to wikip Wiley is releasing another album later this year anyway so maybe both WMR and RS will be on that.
― blueski, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 11:04 (seventeen years ago)
'wearing my rolex' was produced by bless beats not skepta.
― dbs, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:09 (seventeen years ago)
Aye, fair dos, so it was. Not sure where I got that erroneous info from
― I am using your worlds, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:12 (seventeen years ago)
also 'wearing my rolex' was signed independently. maybe there would have been licensing issues if he wanted to have it in his album? anyway, the grime wiki says:
The track is the first part of a trilogy of singles that was designed to garner wider attention from labels for Boy Better Know's forthcoming album V.I.P. The second single is Rolex Sweep by Skepta, and the final track is entitled 'It's Alright'.
and yeah, i think skepta is def interested in funky crossover. cameo played this skepta remix of 'bongo jam' last week.
― dbs, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)
skepta needs to stop doing refixes - the rolex one is a bit crap and obviously a (not very good either) cash in and he REALLY needs to quit with the duppy refixes too. its a bit sad that on his new rinse mix cd all his beats are ancient.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 14:40 (seventeen years ago)
i've been jamming the two and half minute radio edit of this since i got it but i think i might like the extended version better
any of u guyz have a preference?
― J0rdan S., Friday, 30 May 2008 07:16 (seventeen years ago)
Extended, it's just like the original except there's more of it.
― Matt DC, Friday, 30 May 2008 08:38 (seventeen years ago)
which is a good thing, but it doesn't go anywhere it hasn't already gone
― The Reverend, Friday, 30 May 2008 08:42 (seventeen years ago)
But it's a nicer shape.
― Raw Patrick, Friday, 30 May 2008 09:07 (seventeen years ago)
I usually always prefer extended versions, but agree with The Reverend - it dosen't really do anything with the extra 4 and a half minutes.
― I am using your worlds, Friday, 30 May 2008 11:22 (seventeen years ago)
Sounds like the extended one was actually the original that they chopped up for the single.
