List some flowery indie albums of '00, cuz they suck to some degree just because of the floweryness

flowery (flou'ə-rē)
1. Of, relating to, or suggestive of flowers: a flowery perfume.
2. Abounding in or covered with flowers.
3. Full of ornate or grandiloquent expressions; highly embellished: a flowery speech.

Floweryness is an horrible trend in indie music. I hear it all over nowadays. I think it's a sign of people losing their cool.

Caribou - Andorra
Jens Lekmen - Night Falls Over Kortedala
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

remy bean, Saturday, 2 February 2008 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

I like breaking music down into terms that disgust people.

John Justen, Saturday, 2 February 2008 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

no matter how you break it down, no matter how you tear it apart, it remains consistant

CaptainLorax, Saturday, 2 February 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

unlike your spelling

John Justen, Saturday, 2 February 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

if I wanted to be all precious with my spelling I would have drew some more flowers and hugged a smelly hippie

Vampire Weekend is way too flowery for me. Whats wrong with music? Indie has become fused with flowers and violins. and not in the good way.

and it better not be flowery

-- CaptainLorax, Wednesday, October 10, 2007 4:55 PM (3 months ago)

this album is a dissapointment. too flowery. just like the new caribou. i prefer the original 'a little lost' but the youtube video for it is excellent.

After the first 1 & 1/2 listens to Andorra, I don't like this album at all. Too flowery for me and I like belle and sebastian.
This reminds me of what happened to the latest jens lekman album.

That's an interesting take actually. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "people losing their cool?" To what do you attribute this phenomenon?

I attribute it to global warming, and everybody's happy nowadays.
However, I can't be happy with this new happy trend.

All this flowery crap represents to me, everything I hate about society. I hate the idea of it becoming contempt with the way it is. People should not be satisfied with half-ass attempts of entertainment.

The new generation doesn't know any better. They are raised on crappy art. They listen to My Chemical Romance. They watch Jimmy Neutron. They are molded to think this stuff is good. They are turning into happy zombies that whole-heartedly enjoy almost anything.. epic movie, date movie, humor they are raised on, music they are raised on.

I for one will not lose myself to floweryness. Cuz I'm not happy with musicians being happy all a sudden that they have to create flowery music. It doesn't sound good. Music with grandiloquent happy expressions and highly embellished wanking should be kept in the closet.

This is really hard for me to explain. But all you have to do is listen to those some of this music and tell me they are not overly flowery. Bleg. Maybe vampire weekend wasn't the best example. I was hoping you all could come up with some for me. Reach for the sun. I was looking for a list without borderline flowery albums. I'm talking about full-fledged floweriness.

CaptainLorax, Saturday, 2 February 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

reach for the sun, dude, cuz andorra's a pretty good album

kamerad, Saturday, 2 February 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

Actually all of their albums.
What I've heard anyhow.

but see, Caribou is flowery in a good way. Jens Lekman, not so much.

stephen, Saturday, 2 February 2008 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

I dunno, that caribou reminded me of animal collective noodling
