Would you want your favorite live artists to release live shows on CD like Pearl Jam did?

This is of course assuming a hypothetical situation situation in which the artist had the means to record all their live shows, was interested in doing it, and was asking their fans for their opinions. This doubtfully would ever happen in the real music world again.

Yeah, I love both studio albums and live music, but generally regard live albums as the worst of both worlds, unless one really good show is used, or it's cobbled together from an ideal selection of different performances and tweaked to actually work as an album. The way Pearl Jam did it was a noble experiment, and it was nice to be able to really easily buy a recording of the last show of theirs that I went to, but the way those things clogged up the racks was ridiculous. I'm voting for "I would be fine with them recording them all, but only releasing them all as online files to not clutter up CD racks."

I can understand why they'd be cool for those who were there.

I can understand that some 'one-off' tracks might be 'collectable' for fans who weren't there (e.g. PJ's version of "Teenage Kicks" they did for the gig close to derry)

They just look a bit unloved/unloveable in the racks of shops though.

I suppose there will always be some fanatic who just has to have the enormous box set version...

Sell 'em online if you have to. Not because they look bad in shops/fill up too much space, just to have them where the people who want them can get them.

eight months pass...

Has anyone else done this at all? Online, I mean? It seems like such a can't-miss idea to ignorant me...record every show, make it available quickly, and if there's a couple dozen people at each one who thought it was the most awesome show ever and will pay ten bucks to have it for their very own...how can you lose??

Tori Amos did this - or did it on iTunes anyway

And Dead Can Dance did some mail order only deluxe 2 cd version of most if not all of the dates on their recentest tour
