Awesome idea for a thread.

As much as I love Venom, that's not my fave song of theirs. I think I'd have to go with "High N' Dry," as it's simply a great song, but again, so is "Bastard" by the `Crue. Actually, "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)" is a fun one too. Fuck the PMRC.

I mean, could they possibly look any more contemptible if they fuckin' tried? Especially Tipper on the far right.

We'll fight the powers that be just
Don't pick our destiny 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

positively filthy!

Went with Twisted Sister

My parents were very into record confiscation during this time. I lost Weird Al (which had a snippet from ""Relax" during the polka), Wang Chung, and Motley Crue. They never snagged my sister's copy of She-Bop though.

It's not fair!

"Darling Nikki".

Madonna has made considerably filthier songs than "Dress You Up". And where is "I Touch Myself"?

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 10 February 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

OK. I now understand these are from 1985 or older. Which would mean that "I Touch Myself" and "Justify My Love" wouldn't apply.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 10 February 2008 22:13 (seventeen years ago)

What exactly is so offensive --- let alone "filthy" --- about "We're Not Gonna Take It?" Never understood that.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 10 February 2008 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

Suggesting that you don't want to be told what to do anymore is a threat to authority, government, the world, and God. Filthy!

"We're Not Gonna Take It" - the first record I owned TWO copies of, because the first one got scratched.

I'm going with Sugar Walls just because it's the greatest imagery ever created in pop music.

They were definitely stretching it; "In My House" (which I'm voting for) is about as nasty as the average Spice Girls song.

musically, Monday, 11 February 2008 03:25 (seventeen years ago)

Sugar Walls by a wide margin.

I see what you did there.

Although there are lines in the lyrics that relate to alcohol use, the song is generally perceived to be about having fun on a Saturday night in a rock and roll, albeit hedonistic, lifestyle.
