you really like new workout plan better than touch the sky?

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

im interested in knowing what your grievances are towards touch the sky

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

"Touch the Sky" would be around the 8-10 range for me, out of 15 singles.

stephen, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

can't tell me nothing

ciderpress, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:35 (eighteen years ago)

my top 10 is something like

1. all falls down
2. drive slow
3. touch the sky
4. jesus walks
5. stronger
6. flashing lights
7. slow jamz
8. heard me say
9. through the wire
10. good life

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 06:36 (eighteen years ago)

for some reason the "drumfill" at the beginning of drive slow always cracks me up

ciderpress, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:41 (eighteen years ago)

Drive Slow rules. As does can't tell me nothing.

W4LTER, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:43 (eighteen years ago)

Drive Slow has quite possibly the best lyrics he's ever written.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

J0rdan, "Workout Plan" makes me laugh, "Touch the Sky" doesn't. As far as my dislike of the latter goes, the slowed down sample sound like ass and the whole thing is horribly stilted.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

i love paul wall's verse too even though he's in total WALLBOT mode and completely gives the finger to the storyline in kanye's verse

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 06:50 (eighteen years ago)

yeah okay that makes sense (no sarcasm)

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 06:51 (eighteen years ago)

these threads made me realize that all my fav tracks on the first album weren't singles

ciderpress, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:52 (eighteen years ago)

was the video version w/ t.i. ever released on any format besides video? wasn't it like a bonus track on the japanese edition of late reg? i can't even remember if tip's verse is any good or not

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 06:53 (eighteen years ago)

yeah okay that makes sense (no sarcasm)

I like the idea of denoting "no sarcasm" replies on ILM, as such replies are probably in the minority here.

stephen, Monday, 11 February 2008 06:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah yeah Paul Wall's verse is great too, and that stupid drumfill, and that sax, and the screwed bit. Ummmmmmm, I love that song.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

"Touch the Sky" probably would have been good if they left it at the original tempo.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:06 (eighteen years ago)

damn i forgot how awesome the drive slow vid is

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 07:06 (eighteen years ago)

i listened to the original wayyyy too much, on some TOP TEN OF ALL TIME

im sure im being one of those bowie fans incensed about 'been around the world' but fuck it

voted through the wire

deej, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:12 (eighteen years ago)

It's funny to me. In '03, I was all OMG BEST EVER about "Through the Wire", but when I hear it now, it just seems kind of quaint.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:15 (eighteen years ago)

i got a new appreciation for people tuning out songs cuz of their horn samples when i was freaking out over amerie's "gotta work" this summer and i played it for the friend of mine that i play songs for when i really love them and he couldn't get through the first 2 seconds before saying "fuck it"

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

ok i've figured out why it bothers me while puffy's liberal much-hated sampling doesnt, and its that the songs puffy would rip dont really have the same kind of PURITY that i got from 'move on up' - like, he would rip great tracks, peter brown and bowie and 'dont stop the music' etc. and i love all of those but they dont have that same euphoric perfection that 'move on up' has to me ... plus Ma$e or diddy would spit some party rhymes or raps about how they were badasses but something really grated about kanye's solipsism and smarm over a song slowed down and made less free

deej, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

I don't have any problem with him sampling "Move on Up" (which I'd never actually heard at the time), it's just that the sample sounds like it was slowed down digitally, rather than mechanically, and so it sounds distended and awful.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

yeah the hitmen did a way better job turning songs into dance jams than recent JB has ... RIP the days of "Pump it Up"

deej, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:27 (eighteen years ago)

I cracked up about the third time I heard this, when I realized where I recognized the drumfill from.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Pump It Up" is still great.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 07:31 (eighteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 07:33 (eighteen years ago)

I see what you did there.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 08:01 (eighteen years ago)

Can anyone help me place this line I have in my head, but can't figure out where it's from? "Freakin' at the Grammys with the Michael Jackson gloves"

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 08:28 (eighteen years ago)

it's from "the glory" im pretty sure

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 08:32 (eighteen years ago)

oh no that's "yeah at the grammy's i was a little ultra travolta" or w/e

J0rdan S., Monday, 11 February 2008 08:32 (eighteen years ago)

Naw, it's not on one of his albums.

The Reverend, Monday, 11 February 2008 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 16 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

drive slow tops it, the remix with T.I. along with paul walls verse and bass line

miles_rad, Saturday, 16 February 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

"Jesus Walks" just over "Gold Digger" and "Stronger"; love the rush when the beat comes in on "Jesus Walks"

Euler, Saturday, 16 February 2008 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 17 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

I can live with this

stephen, Sunday, 17 February 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

Don't know how I totally never saw this thread. top 5 would be "Slow Jamz" > "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" > "Flashing Lights" > "Heard Em Say" > "Through The Wire".
