John Justen, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

Oh come now, they have Roman numerals.

jaymc, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

a true chicago fan doesn't need your "roman numerals"

John Justen, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

the first album is great. but it wasn't called Chicago. Maybe you aren't counting it?

scott seward, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

This might work for early Peter Gabriel.

Sundar, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:41 (seventeen years ago)

Christmas: What's It Gonna Be Santa?

Andy K, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

i'd rate them:

CHICAGO >> CHICAGO >>>>>>> CHICAGO/CHICAGO > CHICAGO >>> CHICAGO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CHICAGO/CHICAGO/CHICAGO > CHICAGO >> CHICAGO >>>> CHICAGO > CHICAGO > CHICAGO >>>>>>> CHICAGO >(just barely) CHICAGO >>> CHICAGO/CHICAGO >>>>>>>> CHICAGO (after CHICAGO i must admit i kind of quit paying attention)

gff, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

CHICAGO > CHICAGO > CHICAGO

WTF? I can see where you MIGHT put "CHICAGO" before "CHICAGO" but putting "CHICAGO" at the front is just totally RONG!

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

SATURDAY IN THE PARK I THINK IT WAS THE 4TH OF JUUUUULY

VOTE CHICAGO

jhøshea, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

You people repping CHICAGO are fucking bananas; have you never actually heard CHICAGO or CHICAGO?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

Also I think "25 Or 6 To 4" is on all of their albums.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

(i've never actually heard CHICAGO ;_____;)

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

i'm pretty sure it's not on CHICAGO

xp

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

It's been pretty much downhill since CHICAGO.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

CHICAGO was a surprisingly decent comeback after the disappointments of CHICAGO and CHICAGO though.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

CHICAGO had some good stuff on it as I recall

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

^^ geirbait

gff, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

DA DAH!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

I've only heard up to CHICAGO so I don't really feel qualified to vote here.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:17 (seventeen years ago)

But out of the ones I have heard, I'd probably vote CHICAGO.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

Which one's the soundtrack?

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

i havent listened to much chicago, can someone recommend a starting point for me?

max, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

Try CHICAGO

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

The canonical choice is usually CHICAGO, but personally I prefer CHICAGO. Or maybe CHICAGO.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

Edd's also right about the "Chicago" album being way way way too long. And I get the idea he likes "Chicago" (which to me just seems marginally sprightly but forgettably rote, like the album "Chicago") more than I do. I guess my big problem with Cetera, just like my big problem with lots of "Chicago" (and maybe "Chicago", and "Chicago", and certain old Chicago classics people seem to love more than me) is that I don't hear enough music in his music -- he acts like the singing and tunes and lyrics will carry the songs on their own, and they're almost never interesting enough. (Obviously, with Chicago at least, there have been exceptions -- most notably "Chicago". But they're pretty rare, I think.) On "Chicago", there's one cut where he tries to rock out, and good for him for trying, I guess, but it comes out really stiff, and the jam never comes close to drawing me in. I do hope that "Chicago" and "Chicago" get to be released before the cycle is over, though. (Oh yeah, there's another album called "Chicago" which I keep hearing as "Chicago" which would possibly make it an accidental UK grime reference. Though of course it doesn't sound grimey enough.)

Speaking of Chicago, these are all their albums that have been on the chart in Billboard that I think I might have liked. I should find time to figure out how much:

"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"
"Chicago"

Albums I haven't heard, but I'm curious about, judging from their names: "Chicago", "Chicago", "Chicago", "Chicago", and "Chicago". Still have also yet to hear "Chicago" and "Chicago".

Finally, I like some of the '80s stuff (""Chicago"), guitar stuff ("Chicago"), soul-ish stuff ("Chicago") and stuff where the guitars groove like Blood Sweat and Tears ("Chicago"). The new stuff, who cares. But it might have enough cuts I like to pass.

No new-album songs on myspace yet, but still:

The outtakes from Chicago are actually better than the tracks they ended up releasing on Chicago. (Fortunately, said outtakes are compiled on Chicago.)

Joe, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

if there is a tie for first, we'll just have a runoff poll.

John Justen, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 15:22 (seventeen years ago)

I vote for Les Stances A Sophie.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

I can't remember: Which is the one that had that big "CHICAGO" emblazoned on the cover? I used to own that one. That wasn't bad. (Worth the $1 I paid for it, anyways.) I vote for that one.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

NickB, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

I wonder what it all means?

NickB, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm...don't recall ever seeing that cover before. But I remember the one I owned as having a pretty forgettable cover; so, that may be it.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

I bet Chicago will get the lurker vote.

Formerly Painful Dentistry, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for Chicago...flame away, bitches!

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

This would've been a funnier joke with an artist whose albums weren't all very clearly numbered.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

Shouldn't this be on ITR?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

regardless of your opinion of CHICAGO the video for "Stay The Night" is fantastic

My copy of Chicago II just says Chicago on the spine. xpost

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

first album is called "Chicago Transit Authority," and it's pretty frickin' good, no joke. "Chicago II" also worth the time, even if the lyrics start to get a little meh. EVERY OTHER CHICAGO ALBUM IS TOTALLY INDEFENSIBLE.

kenan, Friday, 15 February 2008 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

This is actually rong. For the first album, they were called Chicago Transit Authory. Which was the name of that album (still their best btw)

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 16 February 2008 10:27 (seventeen years ago)

don't agree with me plz, no one will ever check out the album.

kenan, Saturday, 16 February 2008 10:53 (seventeen years ago)

It was a toss-up between "Chicago" and "Chicago", with "Chicago" getting the edge because of that one song.

eeyore19, Monday, 18 February 2008 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

Favorite piece of Chicago trivia: They started doing their double albums -- triple if you count the live one -- and multiple-movement suites as a James William Guercio-masterminded plot to get additional songwriting royalties for the band from Columbia. Once record companies decided to only pay ten royalties per record, they immediately went to ten tracks on the next album (Chicago V) and only did one more double album ever.

Dimension 5ive, Monday, 18 February 2008 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

No Electra Glide In Blue, no credibility.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 18 February 2008 01:54 (seventeen years ago)

I hope Spike Jonze has seen that "Stay The Night" video.

Eazy, Monday, 18 February 2008 02:26 (seventeen years ago)

I thought this was the poll of lyrics to Roy Ayers' "Chicago."

Eric H., Monday, 18 February 2008 02:28 (seventeen years ago)

the manwich horror (Neanderthal), Sunday, 4 June 2023 23:20 (two years ago)

LMAO this was hilarious.

Also, I hate this band. There's maybe an LP's worth of stuff I can stand and even then only a couple of songs that I'd ever want to put on myself (like "25 or 6 to 4" even though there's an elephantine quality to the horn charts and melody that keep me from completely enjoying it).
