Sabbath's last inarguably good record. Some really great music on this one. Sure, we can complain about the mix or the lack of Ozzy or whatever. But there are still 3-4 songs that will decide the fate of this poll.

This album gets tagged on, but I think Trashed and Zero the Hero are both pretty cool Sabbath tunes.

this album is quite good

side 1 is A++++, side 2 is :(

track down the demo versions, they're awesome.

Edward III, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 06:14 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, the demos are HIGHLY recommended if you like the album and want to hear it the way it should've sounded.

"Zero the Hero" is just monstrous. Wickedest, darkest riff Iommi ever came up with. The video used to creep the hell out of me way back when.

I'm gonna vote "Trashed" but "Digital Bitch" is hella funny.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 09:20 (seventeen years ago)

Disturbing the Fucking Priest. One of the all-time great Sabbath songs.

Whoever said side 2 sucks is nuts. This thing is great all the way through.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

worst Sabs album up to that point but gotta go for Zero The Hero

readabook, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

I rate it above Never Say Die or Mob Rules, myself. And "Zero The Hero" is more massive than anything from the Dio years.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

I certainly rate it above Technical Ecstasy, probably even with Heaven and Hell and Never Say Die (for which I am on record as loving). I have a big soft spot for Mob Rules though. There is some "massive" stuff on there.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:43 (seventeen years ago)

I also voted for "Disturbing the Priest"! I can't write about this stuff without sounding like the narrator of my book any more though.

J0hn D., Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

From what i've read so far, that's not a bad thing.

Disturbing the Priest is so evil, but I have to admit I voted for Zero the Hero. That song (and Iommi's solo!) just keeps going and going. And it delivers.

Nate Carson, Monday, 18 February 2008 08:58 (seventeen years ago)

The title track is also great.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 15:43 (seventeen years ago)

side 1 wins in a landslide

Edward III, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

The 'unmixed demos' are definitely interesting, but if they had released it that way, today we'd be talking about how Gillan's vocals were mixed too loud. I think it helps "Keep it Warm" though.

drench, Saturday, 23 February 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)

Also, "The Fallen" really sounds like it should have been the side 2 lead track (and may have given you a reason to play side 2 at all).

drench, Saturday, 23 February 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for the demos Chaki
