Best Track On Tim Buckley - Goodbye And Hello

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

Song to the Siren ftw.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

"Song to the Siren" is gorgeous but "Monterey" gets my vote; it's an incompetent lurching funk with a vocal that manages to articulate a side of humanity that's usually inaccessible. I usually listen to "Rated X" afterward to complete the alienation.

'come here woman' got my vote, if only for the slow burn buildup that leads to his shrieking COOOOOME HEEEEERE WOOOO-MAAAAN!! that's pretty thrilling. 'jungle fire' is close, though, for the same reason. a lot of the songs are either pure freakout or pure float, and those songs play the tension-release game really nicely.

"Monterey" for me - the way Buckley leaps and swoops and eventually paints himself into a corner vocally, thereafter switchting to animalistic yelping.

I know a lotta folks hate it, but I really like "Moulin Rouge" a lot too, just because it's so different from everything surrounding it; and that muted-trumpet melody is so disarmingly bright and tuneful. Quite an anomaly.

Yeah i went for Come Here Woman as well.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

Tom D., Thursday, 14 February 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

That'll be "Monterey."

TS: Jimmy Savile vs Leon Thomas.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 14 February 2008 12:54 (seventeen years ago)

That there Tim Buckley what like decided to go to heaven God rest my SOWEL but he can come back any time he likes and howzabout that then but that there "Song For My Sirens" is not as good as the cover version what was done at the same time by Swinging Blue Jeans, The clunk click this is the age of the train etc.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 14 February 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

"Now then, now then, young master Buckley there, with his 'Starsailors', you see... goodness gracious, is he trying to sound like yours truly? The humble Jim? Euh-euh-euh. Now 'as it 'appens I can give you one point, you see, if you tell me what is your favourite track on Young Captain Tim there's album, 'ows about that then?"

Tom D., Thursday, 14 February 2008 13:37 (seventeen years ago)

Dearie Lord Duchess!

*mmflmhlmzyzsymarip jim*

Owowoo! What is this young Graham Archive like saying there? Now then, who'd have thought that Midd-EL of the ROOOOAD would only get to like number 98 in 1977 with this one called "Sonic Reducer"?

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 14 February 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

"Starsailor" (which is mated with "Healing Festival" on my CD, and not inappropriately). I said this on the Tim Buckley album's poll thread: fuckin' Penderecki with voices.

Sara Sara Sara, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

I said it in Isis magazine back in '81 but did anyone pay any attention? Nope.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

About time somebody did a Sun Zoom Spark with the Straight era and related stuff.
Bung in Blue Afternoon, Starsailor, Lorca and the Boboquivari tv show in audio and dvd form plus I don't know what extras.
Probably nowhere near as popular as Beefheart though?

Since there are Straight lps being rereleased finally I hope others follow. There were some interesting lps put out on the label. I'm dying to get a remastered Farewell Alderbaran by Judy Heske and Jerry Yester.
The Radioactive needledrop one dropped at a time Joe Foster claimed there was a from the masters one due on Rev-ola. & it's since been reissued by Phoenix who are Radioactive under a different name so I've assumed the contents of the cd are as bad.
